Postcard from Toby Oliver ACS on location in New York
Greetings Ron and ACS colleagues from upstate New York, where I am filming the indie movie WILDLING. Liv Tyler, Bel Powley and Brad Dourif star in this spooky and unusual coming of age tale that takes place in the forests around a small backwoods town. Im working with a great young crew from NYC who are really throwing themselves into a demanding schedule and difficult locations like forests, rivers, lakes and caves in rather cool temperatures this time of year! Pictured with me are my A camera team, 2nd AC Adam Meilk and 1st AC Cory Stambler, and the lovely (and light) Alexa Mini - the Mini has been a godsend as once again most of this movie is handheld, as you can see by my camo shoulder pad! VALE ~ John Moncrieff Bale ACS (c1940 - 2015)
The Australian Cinematographers Society has lost one of its founding fathers this week. John Bale ACS passed away on November 12th 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Having established his career in Melbourne, John began the Victorian Branch of the ACS on March 29th, 1966 only 8 years after the Society was established Nationally. John later moved to Tasmania and went about establishing the Tasmanian Branch too. A fine cinematographer, John was the inaugural winner of the Milli Award in 1968. The funeral will be held on November 23rd 2015 at St James Old Cathedral, 2 10 Batman St, West Melbourne, Victoria at 10am. Johns children Bec, Felicity and Richard have asked that should you be unable to attend they suggest lighting a candle at 10am so as to join them as they farewell their father.

World-renowned speed painter Brad Blaze produced three remarkable paintings at the AIMC 2015 Gala Wrap party to celebrate our 70th convention.
Two paintings will be 'silent auctioned' online to AIMC delegates to raise funds to support the wonderful work of the Motion Picture Industry Benevolent Society. The paintings on offer are: DINOSAUR - in honour of JURASSIC WORLD receiving Top Grossing Movie for 2015 Award (1.5m w x 1m h) GOLD - image of the incomparable singer songwriter PINK (1m w x 1.5m h) Brad Blaze was recently named "Entertainer of the Year" at the Australian Event Awards. Last year his paintings raised over $500,000 for charity.
HOW TO BID

Winning bids announced on AIMC website Monday 30 November.
Winning bidder must arrange for collection of their painting from Sydney CBD.

For more than 80 years, the MPIBS has provided financial and emotional support to employed or retired industry members who have fallen on hard times or have a special and genuine need. Over the past 16 years $1.5 million has been dispensed in direct financial aid (as well as contributing to funeral costs). The society relies entirely on donations from motion picture industry enterprises and individuals - as generous as these contributions are, the current level of annual donations must be increased to meet the continuing call on the Societys funds.
