There was a strong feeling of camaraderie, and with some members attending the awards for the first time, it was a chance to rub shoulders with those who are seeing and have seen a lot of success in our industry.
Having only recently been elected into the role as your Branch President, it was a huge honour for me to be able to welcome all who attended and to present a few awards on the night.
Our MC, Annie Louey did an awesome job of keeping the evening fun filled and action packed – She covered the occasional technical glitch brilliantly with her quick wit - there were a lot of laughs.
Once again we were honoured and privileged to have as our Guest of Honour, Kerry Armstrong, who delivered a wonderfully witty, and at times powerful off-the-cuff speech. I’ve had the privilege of knowing Kerry for many years. She is such a professional, always caring, and speaks from the heart. Kerry mingled throughout the night meeting members to have a chat and a few laughs.
A big congratulations to all our winners. Again, this year the standard and variety of work on display was an inspiration to us all. All gold winners will now go onto the National Awards to be held here in Sydney on May 6th next year.
I’d also like to offer a big congratulations to our 5 newly accredited Victoria branch members, Ben Cunningham ACS, Edward Goldner ACS, Sherwin Akbarzadeh ACS, Liam Gilmour ACS, and Dan Maxwell ACS. Receiving your letters is a great honour and a career highlight. Hearing about the varied journeys of each of our newly accredited members was a special moment in the evening.
In the absence of our National President Erika Addis, NSW President and National Vice President Carolyn Constantine ACS was in attendance to deliver a message from Erika and present the Accreditations. A big thanks to Caro for her wonderful contribution to the success of our evening. I’d also like to give a big shout out to Tasmania President Peter Curtis ACS for all his support and contribution he has made over the years in making the Victoria & Tasmania branch awards such huge successes that they have been. As Peter mentioned in his speech, he will be stepping down as Tasmania President next year after many years of service in the role. I’m sure we’ll still see him about from time to time.
This year we made a significant change by renaming our “Judges choice” award to the “Rob Copping ACS Judges Choice” award in honour of our colleague and friend Rob Copping ACS who sadly passed away earlier this year. We were honoured to have Rob’s son Martin in attendance to present this very prestigious award to Jeremy Rouse ACS for his work on the feature film Blaze. A big congrats to Jeremy.
Our Branch committee worked extremely hard to get the awards up and running this year and the success of the night is a credit to their efforts. A big big thank you to you all for your continued dedication and support, bring together events such as this and others throughout the year – Thanks Team.
Our Next event will be on December 8th for an “On the Apple Box” event with yours truly / Xmas drinks / catch-up – So mark it in your diaries. We look forward to seeing you at our final event for 2022.
Cheers Brent
