The Victorian ACS is proud to present a special free screening event tomorrow night! At 7:30pm at the Sun Theatre in Yarraville we will be showing the fantastic documentary "Splice Here", shot by Victorian DOP and committee member Joanne Donahoe-Beckwith. "Splice Here" is a love letter to film, told through the eyes of documentarian and projectionist, Rob (Bert) Murphy.
A decade ago, when film projectors were being ripped out of cinemas and replaced by digital counterparts it was pretty clear that film was facing its death knell. Like many others Rob felt digital was a poor substitute so (without knowing exactly what he was starting) he picked up a camera and began recording what he thought was the end of an era. The resulting ten year adventure has now crossed three continents and explored every facet of film preservation through the secret world of the projectionist underground. We discover how the digital revolution has not just changed the way we see movies, but is becoming a very real threat to how we will remember them.
Director Rob and DOP Joanne will be joining us for a special Q&A after the screening. The film has been shown successfully at numerous overseas festivals and this is a great opportunity for all lovers of film and cinematic history. Scroll down to book your FREE tickets.
The screening will be taking place at the historic Yarraville Sun Theatre in The Davis Theatre. The Sun is one of Melbourne's greatest cinemas which regularly hosts 70mm film premieres. We extend our gratitude to the team at the Sun Theatre for their hospitality and for making this event possible.
