Join AFI Award winning Cinematographer Ellery Ryan ACS (ANGEL BABY, SPOTSWOOD, THE RAGE IN PLACID LAKE) at the AFI | AACTA Q&A screening of EMO THE MUSICAL . The satirical film is Writer/Director Neil TriffettÂ’s debut feature and stars an up-and-coming Australian cast including Benson Jack Anthony (CLEVERMAN, 800 WORDS) and Jordan Hare (THE SECRET DAUGHTER). Based on Neil Triffett's 2014 Berlinale Award winning short film, EMO THE MUSICAL takes a different approach to the typical teen film, using a mishmash of genres and light-hearted tone to show events through the eyes of subcultures that we seldom see on screen. Ethan (Benson Jack Anthony) is a teenager who identifies as emo, a subculture related to a style of punk rock music. On his first day at a new school, Ethan meets Trinity (Jordan Hare), a naive but cute Christian girl who is desperate for Ethan to join the Christian evangelists' Hope Group. But what Ethan really wants is to join the school alternative rock band Worst Day Ever. After successfully auditioning, Ethan is welcomed into the emo world but can't stop thinking about Trinity, and they secretly fall in love. With the looming State School Rock Competition bringing tensions to an all time high, Ethan is forced to confront the harebrained actions of his friends and question who he has become. Ellery Ryan ACS will take part in a Q&A following the screening.
WHEN: Tuesday May 2nd at 6pm for a 6.30pm screening (SHARP) WHERE: Cinema Nova, Lygon St Carlton VIC Email using the link below.
