When rebellious 16-year-old Grace (rising star Odessa Young) takes off, her exasperated mum and dad (the superb Radha Mitchell and Richard Roxburgh) enlist the help of a close-to-retirement detective, and begin the long drive from Perth out to the West Australian wheatbelt to try to find her. On the journey, the two must confront the realities of their changing relationship to one another, and to their daughter
Wry, intriguing and poignant, Brooks unflinching reflection on the disruptive effects of both adolescence and middle-age boasts her trademark sense of character, acerbic humour and eye for the hypnotic rhythms of Australias regional landscapes. Innovatively structured to incrementally reveal each characters journey and secrets from numerous vantage points, LOOKING FOR GRACE is ultimately a beautiful, bold and unmistakably Australian story that reminds us that life is precious, and can change in the blink of an eye.

There are no heroes, just ordinary people and multiple journeys, yet it lacks nothing in emotional impact or narrative drive
Theres no-one better than Brooks at placing characters in the Australian landscape in a way that makes us see their vulnerability, fear and humanity, all at once
With its painterly eye for the parched saltpans and wheat fields bisected by snaking roads, the film has a lonely, elegiac beauty. The unexpected comedy can give way in an instant to something darker, but its never mean-spirited. As so often in Brooks films, the best and the worst of human experience travel together, and we never know which shall have dominion.

Then on Thursday April 21st immerse yourself in the intriguing "Downriver", directed by Grant Scicluna and filmed by ACS Victorian member Laszlo Baranyai HSC ACS which premiered in 2015 at Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF). A tale of redemption and reconciliation, Downriver is the haunting and confronting feature debut from award-winning MIFF Accelerator alumnus, writer/director Grant Scicluna. Boasting a knock-out cast including Reef Ireland (Puberty Blues) and Kerry Fox (Intimacy), the MIFF Premiere Fund-supported Downriver walks in the footsteps of films such as The Boys and heralds the emergence of an exciting new voice in Australian filmmaking. SYNOPSIS:
Sometimes the path to redemption is paved in sin. James, 18, has been released from juvenile detention after serving time for his involvement in the suspected drowning of a young boy in a river years earlier. Ravaged with uncertainty, dealing with an estranged family and forced to face the dead boys mother, James is set upon a journey of self discovery, shocking revelations and danger as questions surrounding the boys death brim to the surface. Old friendships are questioned, family ties are tested and lives are put on the line as James must find his path to the truth. Its a path that will lead him Downriver
