THEN ON FRIDAY: Experience the next generation of colour: Rec.2020. - Friday Feb 26th

This special opportunity has just been presented to ACS and we encourage members to take up this offer.

ACS with the help of Barco, CineTechGeek and Blackmagic's Davinci Resolve has arranged to see their new 6P laser projector the DP4K-60L. This projector can archive 99% of the Rec.2020 colour volume, the closest of any display technology available today.

Exactly how Rec.2020 will enhance your pictures is an unknown. Only by experiencing the colour volume first hand will its capabilities be understood. This preview is a great opportunity for industry professionals to get a peek at what is ahead.

For example:
Rec.2020 is part of the new Ultra HD Blu-Ray specification recently released and content must be mastered in the Rec.2020 colour volume.

The Demonstration will consist of a Davinci Resolve editing system with some sample RAW-14bit content (shot by Matt Woods) for DOPs and colour graders to play with. Those attending are welcome to bring their own sample media. (Note, RAW or 12bit colour depth files recommended)

Positions are limited and the demonstrations will take place during the day on Friday Feb 26th at Barco in Port Melbourne. Attendance by invitation after contacting James Gardiner. Participants will go through in small groups at various times.

WHERE: Barco. 2 RockleaDve, Port Melbourne VIC

TANNA Screening and Q&A Thursday Feb 25th at 7pm at Backlot. FREE to Members.

Join us at Backlot cinema for a very special screening from DCP of the film that won Gold along with Macbeth and Holding The Man at the ACS Vic Tas Awards in November.
This stunning film has to be seen to be believed. It is truly beautiful and a testament to the resolve of its makers in tough and remote conditions and with a very small crew. We will be joined by the DP and co-director of the film, Bentley Dean along with other surprise guests at the Q&A immediately following the screening.

SYNOPSIS: Tanna is set in the South Pacific where Wawa, a young girl from one of the last traditional tribes, falls in love with her chief's grandson, Dain. When an intertribal war escalates, Wawa is unknowingly betrothed as part of a peace deal. The young lovers run away, but are pursued by enemy warriors intent on killing them. They must choose between their hearts and the future of the tribe, while the villagers must wrestle with preserving their traditional culture and adapting it to the increasing outside demands for individual freedom. Tanna is based on a true story and performed by the people of Yakel in Vanuatu.

Hollywood Reporter (Venice Film Festival): It's not often you hear the mischievous games of laughing children punctuated by the vexed cry of a boy yelling, "Catch her! She stole my penis sheath!" But then, the tiny island setting that gives Tanna its title, and the purity of the traditional tribal villagers who enact a story tied to their recent past, give that odd line a disarming innocence. Told with captivating simplicity and yet richly cinematic, it combines ethnographic and spiritual elements in a haunting love story with classic undertones, affording a glimpse into a little-known culture.

Variety: A stirring tribute to the power of love and will likely prompt many viewers to shed tears of sadness and tears of joy.... Wawa is luminous in the central role..Visuals of lush forests, pristine beaches and barren black earth surrounding the volcano are beautiful.

Come at 6.30pm and catch up with friends over a drink or snack before the film at the Backlot Bar.
