Mad Max: Fury Road Q&A on Vimeo

The much anticipated release of the latest Mad Max film has hit the screens at last, thirty years since Thunderdome.
ACS Victoria and other branches were extremely fortunate to have the film's cinematographers John Seale ACS ASC and David Burr ACS visit and present and incredibly insightful behind the scenes look into what it took to put Max back on the screen.
Mad Max: Fury Road, the Q&A is now available on the Victorian Branch Vimeo page to stream. Watch it before you see the film. Watch it after. Even watch it twice.
ACS Vic thanks John and David immensely for taking the time to present and put this great presentation together for all of us to learn from.

ACS at St Kilda Film Festival

Again this year ACS is involved with and supporting the St Kilda Film Festival. The festival runs from May 21st to May 30th and showcases short films, music video and presentation and forums relating to film making including The Big Picture on Saturday May 23rd.
Opening Night is held on Thursday May 21st. A selection of the shorts and music videos will be screened on Opening Night followed by the famous industry after-party. Several of the 100 shorts in competition this year were shot by ACS members and the festival is a great opportunity to see them up on the big screen and share them with colleagues, family and friends.

The Big Picture
On Saturday May 23rd, ACS will have a stand in the St Kilda Town Hall as part of the Big Picture event along with other industry leaders including guilds and organisations. Drop by and say Hi or bring a friend to join ACS. We will be there from 11am - 5pm.

Lighting Workshop
Also on Saturday May 23rd, at 12.30pm we are running a workshop for commercial product lighting taking an icy bottle of Stella Artois from the festival sponsor and demonstrating the approach for successfully art directing, composing and lighting product for motion picture advertising. Cinematographer Warwick Field, ACS Vic President will reveal the process and tricks of the trade with lighting from Laurie Fish Lighting and Camera equipment supplied by Cameraquip. This will run about an hour to hour and half depending on interaction from the audience. Venue: Upstairs at St Kilda Town Hall

Something Old, Something New
Join us on Tuesday night May 26th at 8pm at the St Kilda Town Hall for a panel discussion about the choices cinematographers have these days for lenses. Expect this to be a topical and possibly fiery conversation as we look at comparative footage while a group of highly experienced DP's, Lens technicians and experts share their wisdom and experiences. We will look at Anamorphic Vs Spherical and Vintage Glass Vs New Glass. In recent times as digital cameras get sharper the trend has been to adopt lenses to bring back some emotion to the image. Why? What is better? How much of a difference do lenses make to the project.
Panellists include (subject to availability): Ellery Ryan ACS, Stefan Duscio, David Eggby ACS, Garry Richards, Warwick Field, Grant Hansford from Panavision, lens experts from Lemac and Cameraquip and who knows who in the audience? Plus possible last minute surprises. Limited seating. Be sure to RSVP
