ACS Victoria congratulates all Awards Recipients at National Awards

Last weekend in Hobart the ACS held its 44th Annual National ACS Awards for Cinematography 2015. The venue was the incredible MONA gallery which helped create a wonderful air of prestige and elegance to the more than 200 guests.
Having lost one of our greats during the week, the awards were named in honour of Andrew Lesnie ACS ASC which created a sombre note among the many who had spent time with Andrew both in their careers and socially. Many a tear was shed as the anecdotes were shared.

For those members who subscribe through their memberships to the National eNews, you will have an account of the Awards so we won't repeat it in detail here again. Incidentally, if you don't have the National eNews emailed to you we urge you to subscribe for all the latest ACS news. Simply login to your account on the ACS website and change your preferences to include any of the eNews editions you wish to receive. It is that easy.
Victorian members were honoured with several awards in Tasmania and we would like to congratulate them individually.

A special survey for you to complete

In light of current discussions based around wages and working conditions and contracts, a group of Melbourne based Camera Crew have contacted ACS asking that we share with you a simple anonymous survey to attempt to grab a snapshot of the the industry especially relating to the Camera Department. Please take a minute, literally, and fill in this from to help all in the industry find solid ground in these turbulent times.

From the Melbourne Camera Technicians:

To ACS members,

Due to wage pressure placed on Technicians in the film industry, particularly of late from Advertising and Overseas production companies (not to mention Australian Drama which has also been affected), a large number of Melbourne Camera Technicians got together in November last year to discuss ways of addressing some kind of uniformity of payment and understanding of contracts and conditions.

As a result a Camera Department Wage Survey has been created to take a snapshot of how much people charge for working on each format of production. The statistics gathered will be collated and distributed to give each other a guide for current pay rates, and in the case of wage earners, a guide for a universally understood 'recommended minimum' hourly rate. We want to get as many people as possible to complete the survey so the results have a chance of being statistically accurate.

It is important to the group to have as many DOP’s and Operators involved in this survey. This is why we’ve asked for it to be distributed through ACS. Hopefully it will give everyone in our department a clear indication of what others are charging and not feel pressure to compete or undercharge.

The survey is completely anonymous and the results will be primarily distributed to people in camera department to facilitate sensible and reasonable discussion.

Thank you.

Melbourne Camera Technicians.
