This one-day, intensive Masterclass has been confirmed for June 28th

The Victorian Branch of the ACS is pleased to announce we will be conducting a one-day intensive Cinematography Masterclass with Andrew Lesnie ACS ASC on Saturday June 28th 2014 at Docklands Studios.

Andrew is a highly respected and awarded DP possibly best known for his work on The Lord Of The Rings trilogy (for which he won an Oscar and a BAFTA) and The Hobbit trilogy, as well as films such as Babe, I Am Legend, King Kong, Bran Nue Dae, Doing Time with Patsy Cline and The Lovely Bones. Most recently he has completed Craig Monahan’s film “The Healing” which was shot in Victoria and Russell Crowe’s directorial debut “The Water Diviner”.
The Masterclass will be held on Stage 2 at Docklands Studios, Melbourne. The workshop will involve an opportunity to set up and light a scene within a 3 walled set on stage. Andrew will propose an idea for a scene and selected small groups of participants will be allowed to interpret a scenario and decide how to go about choreographing and lighting the scene and working out coverage supported by a professional crew. Equipment will include an Arri Alexa camera with full lens kit and a complement of professional lighting and gripping equipment managed on set by leading industry professional gaffers and grips. During the day different teams will attempt a scene, which may be completely differently constructed, and be guided by Andrew.

Additionally, Andrew will discuss his approach to cinematography using examples of his work on a large screen during which participants are invited to engage in the discussion to further their understanding of cinematography. This is a very exciting opportunity not to be missed. Andrew is well known for his incredible enthusiasm to generously share his knowledge and experiences. The Masterclass will not be recorded so the only way to benefit from this is by attending.
