It's time to look back on your best work from the last 12 months and get it ready to submit. ACS Awards are highly regarded in the industry and a great promotional asset. Your mantelpiece is just not complete without one or two of those shiny awards sitting proudly up there! Gold winners are automatically entered into the National Awards held in 2014.

There are several categories under which to enter your masterpieces. All the entry information is on the website through the link below. Specific terms and conditions apply so please read the information carefully BEFORE sending in your entries to avoid problems with the judging and screening. Unfortunately each year we receive submissions that do not meet the ACS guidelines and will be excluded from judging.

We will be accepting entries from ACS Members for this year's awards from

MONDAY, AUGUST 19th 2013 until Friday OCTOBER 4th 2013 at 5pm.

Please ensure you are a currently paid-up member of the Vic/Tas ACS prior to submission. No entries previously submitted can be entered again this year.

Entries can be mailed to our Victorian PO Box or hand delivered to Lemac or Cameraquip Melbourne. If you are interstate or overseas we have an upload site that you can use. Uploaded videos have certain limitations so we strongly recommend your material is submitted physically for the best possible viewing experience for our judges. If you have time, mail it or drop it in to us.

Everything you need to get started is found on the webform via the link below and then further information regarding how to send us your entry is provided to you after completing the Entry Form. Each entry requires its own form. Please have all your entry information ready to complete the online entry form.

Get to it and best of luck. See you at the Awards!!

The BEST OF CREW Award is on again, too!

In 2012, the Victorian Branch of the Australian Cinematographers Society established the inaugural "Best of Crew" Award, to honour a crew member who has excelled "above and beyond the call of duty" in supporting the DOP on a production to achieve outstanding work. We are running this award again this year.

The winner will be notified after the judging is completed ahead of the Awards. He or she will be given two free tickets to the 2013 Victorian/Tasmanian State Awards for Cinematography to be held at 7pm Saturday, November 23rd at the ANZ Pavilion, The Arts Centre, Melbourne. They will be presented with the "Best Of Crew" Certificate at the Awards and given a one year's free membership to the Australian Cinematographers Society, Victorian or Tasmanian Branch.

The ACS Victoria Branch Executive invites all Accredited or Full Member DOP's to nominate someone from their crew, such as 1st AC's, 2nd AC's, Data Wranglers, DITs, Colourists, Gaffers or Grips who they believe has played a very significant role in achieving the high quality of the cinematography on a particular production.

The DOP should explain why they feel the candidate is worthy of the Best Of Crew Award. The description should outline how the crew member excelled and why it was they impressed the DOP in such a way. This written submission is what the judging panel will read to achieve their decision of the winner.

Unsuccessful submissions will remain anonymous and confidential. No previous submissions may be entered again unless the production has gone into another year. However, the same candidate may be submitted again if it is on a different production.

Please email the Victorian President with your written submission and be sure to include the following:
Name of DOP:
Name and role of Candidate:
Name of Production:
Date of Production:
Reasons why they are Best Of Crew:

Please be sure to write "BOC Submission_(his/her name), on your email Subject Line.

48hr Film Project for Melbourne Oct 11-13

In 2001, The 48 Hour Film Project started as a local film challenge among friends. Since then, it has evolved into a global phenomenon and the world’s largest filmmaking competition.

This year, The 48 Hour Film Project will tour nearly 125 cities, challenging more than 50,000 people to complete an entire film from writing and casting to filming and editing in a mere 48 hours! All in all, more than 4,000 films will be created as part of the 2013 competition.

The competition returns to Melbourne for the 6th year to challenge and inspire Victoria’s filmmaking community. Participants will be battling it out over 48 hours to take home the award for Best Film. With top prize being a ticket and a trip to this year’s Filmapalooza in New Orleans, 48HFP Melbourne is expecting some stiff competition.

Anyone can enter and make a 48HFP film; all films (even the late films) submitted on the 13th will be screened to the public at Cinema Nova. Registration is open! And teams are joining in fast, last year we had 50 teams in Melbourne and from that 48 films were created. Be creative - and a bit crazy and take the challenge!

If you’re interested in seeing the results from the weekend, visit www.48melbourne.com.au to purchase cinema tickets.
