Geoff Boyle 2-Day RAW Workshop, Melbourne, June 1 & 2, 2013

PRESENTED EXCLUSIVELY BY THE AUSTRALIAN CINEMATOGRAPHERS SOCIETY

This is an opportunity not to be missed. It is relevant to DPs, Camera Assistants, DITs, Colourists, Editors and anyone involved in digital cinematography.


In this series of Workshops, world renowned Cinematographer and CML website founder, Geoff Boyle FKBS will take you through RAW workflow from acquisition, to on set media management, to post production.

With a healthy mix of theory, practical demonstrations, personal observations and hands on sessions, you will discover the every day issues of using RAW, what it adds and how to handle it.

All RAW camera systems available today will be covered including: ARRI Alexa, Sony P65, F55, Penelope D, RED, Canon C500, Blackmagic Cinema Camera and RED Dragon. Post systems will include: Colorfront Express Dailies, IRIDAS Speed Grade, DaVinci Resolve and RedCine – X.

Topics will include: Basic Theory, Theory of CFA’s, Compression, Camera set up, Use of exposure meters, Cameras and meters, Simple laptop colour grading, Post Workflow, Problems that can bite you!,
Handling data, Backing up...

Workshops sessions will commence in Canberra as part of the ACS National Awards for Cinematography on Saturday, May 25. They will then flow onto Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.

The Melbourne 2-Day Workshop will be held in Prahran at Swinburne School of Film and Television.

DATES: Saturday June 1 and Sunday June 2, 9am - 5pm.
Lunch and Refreshments will be provided.

Ticket Sales will be available to ACS MEMBERS ONLY until APRIL 9.

After that, remaining tickets will be available to non-members, so be sure to take advantage of the privilege of Membership and secure your place at this major event. It will be very popular and will sell out fast. The workshop is kept quite small to allow a hands on approach so places are limited.

Sun Studios (Melbourne) present the Canon 1D -C Camera - Thursday May 16th

Come along to this ACS Members event presented by Sun Studios at their Melbourne studio facility. Refreshments will be provided.

The new Canon 1D- C camera will be showcased with an opportunity for attendees to get a hands on experience with experts explaining the camera.

Canon explains the 1D- C is a 4096 x 2160 (4k) camera recording to CF cards at 24fps in M-JPEG (8-bit, 4.2.2) and capable of variable speed up to 50 or 60fps with external recording possible via HDMI to 8-bit, 4.2.2. It uses the Canon Log Gamma.

May 25, evening.
The 2013 National ACS Awards for Cinematography in Canberra, followed by the AGM on May 26.

May 27, evening.
St Kilda Film Festival presents the ADG/ACS forum: Finding your Perfect Match: Relationship between the Director and Cinematographer. With Natasha Pincus, Warwick Field, Ellery Ryan ACS and Jonathan Auf Der Heide. Moderated by Victoria Goodyear.

June 1 & 2, day.

July/August.
An evening with Oscar Winner, Andrew Lesnie ACS ASC. Includes discussion about his career and recent projects including the technical and creative aspects of The Hobbit. We are exceptionally lucky to have Andrew for a few hours. This is not a chance that will come along often. Q & A. Free member's event. Refreshments. Details coming.

August. The famed ACS Cinematography Masterclass will be held again. Details are being confirmed but this will be a great opportunity to learn from the best in a small group.

2013 ACS National Awards for Cinematography

This year's 42nd awards night will be held in Canberra on Saturday May 25th. Tickets are now on sale through our Website.

The team from the ACT Branch, Robb Shaw Velzen, Georgina Jenkins, Pearl Lee and many others, have come up with the theme A SHINING LIGHT: Australian Cinematography.

They are also proposing some fantastic events over the 3-day period from Friday May 24 – Sunday May 26. These include a cocktail “networking” evening on the Friday evening, co sponsored by the ACS and SPAA at the NFSA, followed by a screening at the ARC Cinema, and a Q&A of “Show me the Magic," the documentary about the life and career of Don McAlpine ACS ASC. The documentary was Directed by Cathy Henkel and co produced by Cathy Henkel and Trish Lake.

On the Saturday there will be the first of the Geoff Boyle RAW Workshops at the NFSA Boardroom, and in the evening the National Awards for Cinematography at Old Parliament House. Sore heads not withstanding on the Sunday, while the Branch delegates attend the ACS Half Yearly meeting, there are plans afoot for some other special events.
