VICTORIAN eNews POV October 15, 2012

We are offering a New Award! ...but it's not for you.

The Victorian/Tasmanian Branch of the Australian Cinematographers Society will this year establish an award to honour a crew member who has excelled "above and beyond the call of duty" in supporting the DOP to achieve great images.

The Award will be called The ACS Victoria/Tasmania Branch - "Best of Crew Outstanding Achievement Award". It will consist of the presentation of a plaque to the winner, a one year's free membership to the Australian Cinematographers Society and dinner tickets for two to the State Awards presentation.

The branch executive invite all accredited or full member DOP's to nominate one person from their crew (for example: camera, grip dept, lighting dept, colourist) who they believe has had a very significant impact on the production and to write a brief description as to your reasons for nominating that person for the judges' consideration.

Congratulations to our newest Accredited Cinematographers

From National President, Ron Johanson ACS:

ACCREDITATION was a very important event held during September at the National Headquarters. Accreditation is the highest honour presented to a member, and the Accredited cinematographer shall have the right to use the letters "ACS" after his or her name.

We had an outstanding Accreditation Panel comprising: Chair - Ernie Clark ACS, Ron Johanson ACS, David Wakeley ACS, Ellery Ryan ACS, Don McAlpine ACS ASC, Andrew Lesnie ACS ASC, Anna Howard ACS, Geoff Burton ACS, Alan Cole ACS, Garry Phillips ACS, Ted Rayment ACS, Roger Lanser ACS, along with David Lewis ACS as Scrutineer and Alexis Castagna as Asst. Scrutineer.

I'm pleased to confirm the names of the 7 cinematographers representing a wide range of genres, who were Accredited after screenings held on 7 & 8 September 2012.

Jason Hargreaves ACS (QLD -337#)
Brad Dillon ACS (QLD -338#)
Justin Hanrahan ACS (NSW -339#)
Simon Chapman ACS (NSW -340#)
Lachlan Milne ACS (NSW -341#)
Greig Fraser ACS (VIC -342#)
Trent Butler ACS (TAS -343#)

These members join the 336 already Accredited since the inception of Accreditation in 1963. They will have their certificates and Accreditation pins presented at their State & Territory Awards in November.
I thank you all once again for the honour of being your National President over the past four years. It's been a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding experience and I am very proud of the ACS, it's role within our industry, the generosity of our members and the optimism we have for the future.

A Special Thanks to our Sponsors

Not-For-Profit organisations such as The Australian Cinematographers Society rely on assistance from volunteers and the financial support of sponsors who generously contribute funds in order that we can continue to function.

Each year we seek to maintain our existing Sponsors and approach other like-minded business and ask if they would be prepared to come on board.

We are very fortunate this year again to have a terrific team of volunteer committee members working tirelessly and giving freely of their time, as well as an incredible group of companies acting as our Sponsors. Some are back again and we welcome some new names to the ACS Victoria/Tasmania sponsor team.

In addition to our State Sponsors, we also acknowledge and thank Sponsors at the National level.

We ask all cinematographers and fellow film makers to support these businesses generously because without them we could disappear.

Our State Sponsors this year are (alphabetically):

GOLD- Black Magic Design, Blue Post, Deluxe Melbourne, Freelancers Promotions and Video Australasia

SILVER- Method Studios and Murray Tregonning and Associates.

Thank you all.
