ACS TASMANIA BRANCH

2023 END OF YEAR EVENT
Our annual wrap-party, plus presentations from two ACS Tas members....

Tom Chapman

and

Christopher Jolly.

(Followed by lunch)

The Kentish Arms in Oatlands.
Sunday 10th December - 10am to 2pm approx.

RSVP's required as numbers are limited.

Last year we thought it was crazy to have an ACS event in December, especially in Oatlands - but we had a great turn-out, and everyone had a really fun time.

In 2023 we're going one better.  Same crazy time of year and same venue, but this year we've included two presentations, prior to lunch, from local ACS members - Christopher Jolly and Tom Chapman.

The Kentish has good food, great coffee and plenty of other lubricating beverages. Please let us know if you're keen to car pool.

RSVP through the link at the bottom of this newsletter any  time up until 8th December. First in best dressed.  Numbers are limited so we can all squeeze into the back-room at The Kentish.
About our Presenters

Tom Chapman is a Launceston based ACS member who works primarily as a corporate and commercial cinematographer.  However Tom's true passion is in the documentary space.

Tom says he really enjoys the emotional connection you can have with your subjects. Tom also dabbles in directing and regularly finds himself wearing both hats within a small crew. He particularly enjoy working with real people, rather than actors.

Toms presentation will describe his  journey into cinematography.  He didn't pick up a camera until he was 30ish.  Tom will talk us through the sort of work he's produced and discuss how his ethos has changed in the 10 years since he's been shooting professionally.

Over a decade ago Christopher Jolly set aside a successful career in high-end hospitality to study TV and Media at Rosny College, under ACS Tas members Graham Gates and Simone Cunliffe.  He was a stand-out student and quickly secured work in a Hobart Advertising Agency after graduating.  Then Chris moved to the beautiful North West Coast and began a freelance career.  He has worked a lot as a high-end wedding videographer but in recent years has really branched out into covering arts and community events, food and tourism video production, and music clips.

As someone who has worked adjacent to industry norms for his whole career Chris will share his methods of working solo to film live events with multiple cameras and audio.

Chris wants this to be a sharing of skills and experience (rather than a formal lecture) and will bring his equipment along to demonstrate his workflows and for members to check things out for themselves.

Chris will also bring along his trio of Blazar GreatJoy Anamorphic lenses - a set of EF/PL mount 1.8x anamorphic lenses available for under $3k each.
