ACS Tas Event - Reminder

A practical guide to Cinematography.

with Andrew Taylor ACS

 Saturday - February 25th 2023
at Ignite Digi HQ in Glenorchy.
A reminder for those yet to RSVP that this event isn't far away  - Saturday 25th February.  All the details regarding where and when are at the bottom of this eNews including the link to RSVP.  Andy Taylor will be an excellent presenter, so it's going to be well worth the effort of coming along.

Andy will share his experiences, insights, tips, tricks and philosophy on our craft. He'll screen excerpts of his work, run us through his essential kit and demonstrate his favourite 'on the road' lighting set-ups. He'll also bring a new Canon Full frame 20-50mm zoom for us to check out.

Andy's a friendly and easy going person.  He'll welcome plenty of questions.  It's going to be an excellent opportunity to hear first-hand from one of the most experienced, versatile and accomplished cinematographers around.

Andy came up through the ranks of the broadcast industry.  For many years he worked for the ABC in Sydney and in various International Bureau's.  He became a long-form Current Affairs specialist, working on Foreign Correspondent and 4-Corners, before moving to 60 Minutes at the 9 Network

In recent years Andy has gone freelance and is now very busy working on documentaries, network promotions, advertising, travel, fashion, and corporate branding projects.
In an upcoming IF Magazine article Andy says -

'I feel naked without my camera. I’ve been shooting documentaries and current affairs stories in more than 100 countries for over thirty years, and I always hand carry my camera with a lens and batteries when I fly.

Most of my work is shot on a full frame camera with prime lenses, normally with my Arri Alexa Mini LF & Signature Primes or my Canon C500mkii & Canon cine-primes. I love the image quality and shallow depth-of-field that the combination of the large sensor and fast lens produce. My favourite focal length is a 50mm, but I always have a wide and a long prime handy.'

Andy working on a doco with landscape photographer Ken Duncan AOM and Ray Martin AM.

'I’ve been really lucky to have shot a few fantastic documentaries recently, some are still in production so it’s difficult to talk about them. One is natural history series which involves several long international trips, another is an established series for Netflix, plus a couple feature documentaries for Tourism Australia and Queensland Tourism. I also filmed Exposed - The Ghost Train Fire a documentary series for the ABC, and I worked on Shark Beach with Chris Hemsworth for Disney+ under DoP Jules O’Loughlan ACS ASC which was fantastic! Coming up I have shoots for CBS 60 Minutes (USA), network promo’s for Nine, plus another trip filming a cheese documentary series in the US and Europe.'
