ACS Tasmania Branch Annual General Meeting

The ACS Tasmania branch will hold its Annual General Meeting at 6:30pm, Wednesday 9th August at the ABC Broadcast Centre in Hobart. We encourage you to take the opportunity to attend the AGM and support the Tas branch committee.

The past 12 months has been an excellent period for our branch with great success at the Vic/Tas Awards and a good number of well attended, quality local events. Let's make it even better in the year ahead.

The ACS is a "Not for Profit Society" and relies entirely on the generosity of its members and sponsors to organize its day to day running; this is what makes the ACS the success that it is both here in Australia and internationally.

Our society is only as good as its members and for it to grow and thrive it needs everyone's support, even in little ways. Don't worry, you wont be asked to become an office bearer or part of the committee (unless you want to be). It would just be nice to have some members there to show an interest and maybe make some suggestions for the year ahead!

Peter Curtis ACS
ACS Tasmania Branch President.

Annual subs and membership types

New Cinematographer membership certificates.

Last month you would have received an invoice for your annual ACS membership. Thanks to all who have already paid. If you have lost your invoice let Treasurer, David Hudspeth, or President Peter Curtis know and we can email you another.

You may have noticed there has been a realignment of membership types and titles. This has been done to better reflect the industry as a whole. We now have Cinematographer (formally Full member) and Camera Crew (formerly Active member). If you would like a new Cinematographer membership certificate please contact us and we can send one out to you.

Recent ACS Tasmania Events

We’ve run some excellent and well-attended events in the last few months.

In our last Newsletter we reported back to you on two events run back to back in May. The first showcased the work of two fantastic Tasmanian cinematographers, Frederique Olivier and Lewa Pertl. The second was a Members Only tech night with Tom Waugh, Richard Williams and Mark Dobbin. Both events were very well attended.

Pieter De Vries ACS - The Camera, The Story workshop.

This month we ran a fantastic two-day documentary Masterclass with Pieter de Vries ACS. We had around 24 attendees for both days of this workshop. Approximately half attendees were ACS members and the other half were interested members of the Tasmanian film community. ACS members received a generous discount, but regardless it was great value for money! Pieter is not only a world-class documentary cinematographer, but also a great communicator and teacher. He shared some great insights into what it takes to produce the best quality work possible, using a wide range of cameras and equipment. A quite inspirational weekend!

Pieter sharing the knowledge!
