It is with deep sadness that the Tasmanian branch of the Australian Cinematographers Society mourns the passing of Peter Underwood AC, Governor of Tasmania, patron of the arts, and a man of peace. Peters support of the arts in Tasmania was legendary and I know the arts community will greatly miss him. Earlier this year His Excellency asked to be involved in next years ACS National Awards, being held in Tasmania for the first time. As well as presenting awards at the MONA Awards ceremony he also graciously offered to host a reception for the ACS at Government House, to welcome cinematographers from around Australia. Sadly we will never hear his welcoming words, which I know, would have been pertinent, humorous and as always memorable. Over the years many ACS Tasmania members have had the pleasure of filming Peter Underwood as lawyer, Supreme Court judge, Chief Justice and Governor. His pleasant nature, warm personality, clever use of wit and genuine openness to all made him a pleasure to work with. Our thoughts go out to his wife Frances, his four children and three stepchildren. Peter Curtis
