SA Christmas Drinks Wrap up
Hi from Mevs in LA
ShotClass and 2nd AC course
Intro to Crew HQ
From the Pres

Forty four financial ACS members and SA Sponsors came to our annual Christmas get together at The Colonist Hotel on the Parade in Norwood on Monday December 12 for some Christmas cheer, delicious finger food and drinks.
A good time was had by all!

Mile Rowland ACS was presented with his Accreditation Certificate #444 and Accreditation pin since he couldn't attend our 2022 Awards dinner since he was shooting on location at the time.

Perennial winner, Leona Cichon, won yet again getting the first door prize of a $50 voucher to the ACS online shop as well as an ACS Keep Cup and ACS Cap but she generously passed it onto Alison Croft.  The draw of the $100 Voucher to the ACS online shop as well as an ACS Keep Cup and ACS Cap went to Jai McGregor, whilst the free entry into any category in the 2023 SA & WA Awards as well as an ACS Cap and Keep Cup was won by Emerson Hoskin. The free, one year SA ACS membership (originally drawn for Richard Back who kindly called for a redraw) went to Richard Coburn and Helen Carter won the $100 "Dinner Voucher". Meanwhile, both Mylene Ludgate and David Gregan won bags with a bunch of DVD's and other random bits n pieces. Thanks to Bouzzi for the pics.

Once again, have a wonderful Christmas and all the best for the upcoming year. Thank you to all the members who have attended our events and in turn supported our branch. I also thank my dedicated committee who go the extra mile to make our events and our branch as good as it can be. See you in 2023.
Hi from Mevs in LA
Ex SA Vice Pres and now SA committee member Mark Evans is in LA to celebrate a birthday with ex SA ACS member Kris Denton who now lives & works over there.  Whist there they both got a special tour of the ASC clubhouse in Hollywood.  Here's a email from Mevs and a few pics.

  Hi from LA,

Before leaving for LA, our SA Pres Ernie sent Ronald Johanson ACS an email to see about me visiting The ASC Clubhouse in Hollywood. After a few responses it was all sorted and along with ex Adelaide ACS member Kris Denton we were greeted at the gate by ASC Vice-Pres Steven Fierberg ASC, a real character who loves Aussies. (Vice-Pres of ASC latest project “Emily in Paris“)

On the day there was a special lens testing event where various manufactures showed off their latest lens kits. Some usual suspects such as Cooke, Arri and Lietz, mainly anamorphic with small players making new lenses using old glass. Vintage glass and controlling lens flare was the main topic and T-stops.

The Clubhouse is filled with some amazing old cameras and photos, like the camera used on Citizen Kane by Greg Toland ASC.

It was a great afternoon and I promised to send Steven over a few ACS T shirts!  See ya soon, Mevs

Thanks Mark, we very much appreciate how much you have done for so many years for our Branch.
Introducing ShotClass

Our friends over in Vic have been busy and have come up with an exciting new opportunity for Cinematographers and Camera Crew has opened up this month called ShotClass. It offers cinematography intensives and masterclasses for all camera professionals, and those emerging talents, who wish to learn more about certain aspects of cinematography and roles within the camera department. Warwick Field ACS, former Victorian ACS president and long-time DP, launched ShotClass recently to answer the call for classes and short courses which cater for higher levels of training and demonstration by industry leaders. All instructors are either active DP’s or top camera crew such as current Camera Operators and Camera Assistants. The idea is to create set-like teaching environments on location and in studio, so participants can experience the lesson realistically and take away knowledge that can be implemented into their next job.

Most classes are One-Day or Two-Day Intensives or Masterclasses and short courses which run a week or two depending on the subject. There will also be the occasional Panel discussion and Product Information events. ShotClass is different in that it doesn’t only focus on the DP and require a commitment of a year or more to complete studies. It will offer education for camera assistants, camera operators and cinematographers to enable them to learn a specific skill or maybe climb the ladder to the next stage of their career in a short space of time.

Full information is available on the website at
www.shotclass.com.au
ShotClass is a Silver Sponsor of ACS Victoria.

2ND AC Course

Coming up in late January 2023 is the now famous ACS 2nd AC Certificate Course which is being run by ShotClass, in affiliation with ACS Victoria, for the first time. It runs in Melbourne from Jan 30 - Feb 10 over 10 days, with a weekend break. This course has led to many previous students gaining work in the camera department as 2AC's on major productions since it first started in 2015. If you, or someone you know would like to join the 2023 course, you can apply using the link to the Application Form on this page about the course. (Note places are very limited and it is in demand).

I understand Melbourne is a way to travel but I know the people behind theses courses very well and highly recommend them to you if you can find a way to attend them.
