Mercury CX are hosting the OzAsia Film Festival kicking off this weekend with the opening night gala with a beautifully remastered screening of Wong Kar-Wai’s In the Mood for Love and a fun party with cocktails, DJ and food truck in their Love and Neon bar.

If you haven't seen In the Mood for Love do yourself a favour and please do. It's one of the most evocative films with Doyle's most amazing cinematography.

On Sunday there is a screening of Karena Slaninka's documentary Orientations: Chris Doyle Stirred Not Shaken, about Wong Kar-Wai’s Australian born cinematographer Chris Doyle, shot on 35mm film that she made some time ago - with a Q&A to follow.

Wrap up of screening & Q&A of Escape from Pretoria

Well the screening of Escape from Pretoria, shot by 3 time Milton Ingerson Award for Best Cinematography winner Geoffrey Hall ACS, was a great success with 35 very interested attendees. Geoffrey generously told us about the numerous tricks involved, the lighting, the lensing, split diopters, etc and this was followed by an extensive Q&A.

Geoff also demonstrated the
Mac Quantum DMX lighting system supplied by NovaTech which was used to facilitate quick lighting changes for many of the scenes.

Many thanks to Gold ACS Sponsors Pro AV Solutions for their Laowa macro probe lens and Picture Hire for supplying a Camera and monitor. Thanks to all the contributors including the SAFC for their support of the SA ACS Branch.

Key Grip John Smith
demo'd his DJI remote head with master wheels and many got to have a go at operating them. Thanks to Justin Eckert and Bec Taylor who helped set it all up after a long day on set and, of course, many thanks Geoffrey and John.

Geoffrey demonstrates the master wheels after the screening & Q&A.
