Virtual Reality night presented by Piers Mussared
Come and learn about VR from 2016 State Gold Award winner and SA ACS member Piers Mussared. Piers will talk through challenges, techniques and equipment involved in VR production from pre to post production, with focus on live action capture. There will be plenty of opportunity for discussion during and after the session and Piers will have demos of various recent works he has shot. We will have some examples of head mounted displays (VR headsets) so attendees can immerse themselves in the VR experience. This night should be very enlightening and rewarding so RSVP now. About Piers: Piers Mussared is Head of Production at Jumpgate Virtual Reality, a creative studio specialising in the production and implementation of virtual reality and interactive content. Piers has completed over 70 VR projects since Jumpgates conception in 2014 and has extensive experience in all production roles including director of photography, editor and director. In 2015 Piers shot and directed Screen Australias first virtual reality investment, Madeleine, which premiered at Adelaide Film Festival and later screened at Sydney Film Festival. Other notable pieces as director of photography include Stuck in the Middle With You, a virtual dance experience in collaboration with ACMI and the Sydney Dance Company, and the Unseen House, a behind the scenes Sydney Opera House experience with the Google Cultural Institute. Piers has a passion for the meaningful application of virtual reality to cultural and environmental projects for education, posterity and raising awareness.
Cine Equipment Garage Sale
Trash 'n Treasure Bazaar Here's the opportunity to pick up a bargain or maybe sell that bit of gear that's been sitting on the shelf for far too long. As they say "one person's rubbish is another's treasure!" Picture Hire Australia is hosting a special Trash and Treasure event on Saturday March 18 from 9am until noon. This special event will be similar to a Garage Sale, various vendors will have tables setup with a range of film and video equipment for sale.
Gold ACS sponsors Picture Hire Australia and Pro AV Solutions will both have stalls. Anyone else who wishes to setup a table are welcome to register: dave@picturehire.com Vendors have to provide their own table, shelter and chair. Please note that this is a cash only event, and vendors will be responsible for handling their own cash and change. The stalls will be in the carpark at the rear of Picture Hire, 28 Clarke St, Norwood.
Free Otto Bloom Tickets
The SA branch still has a couple of double passes to an advance screening of the upcoming film The Death and Life of Otto Bloom, staring Xavier Samuel and Rachel Ward, about the chronicle of the life and great love of an extraordinary man who experiences time in reverse passing backwards through the years while remembering the future. Aesthetica Short Film Festival 2017
The seventh Aesthetica Short Film Festival is open for entries. ASFF provides a platform for emerging and established filmmakers to showcase their work to a wider audience, and is looking for practitioners who are pushing the boundaries of short film forward. Jury members for 2017 include Jane Roscoe (Director, The London Film School), Matimba Kabalika (Talent Development Manager, BFI NET.WORK), Philip Ilson (Director, London Short Film Festival), Robbie Gibbon (Editor, The Trip, The Casual Vacancy and Doctor Who) amongst many others (www.asff.co.uk/jury-2017).
