Have you paid your Membership Fees? If not, they are now overdue, if you are not financial you can't enter the awards, nor will you receive AC magazine and you cannot attend our events, besides it takes a lot of our volunteers time to chase up tardy payers. If you are not financial by September 30 we will have to remove unpaid memberships from our database. Entry to our 2015 Awards are now open but close soon on Friday September 18 so hurry up and enter your best work. Something else to put in your diary, on the Saturday afternoon before the awards, we are holding a Wastelander Panda Screening & Q&A held which will be co-hosted with Australian Society of Editors (ASE). This will be on October 31 so jot the date down. Our co sponsors the AADC are having their Awards on Thursday Sept 3 so RSVP this Monday for a great night at AADC members price. Soon we will announce the link to book tickets for our 35th Annual SA & WA Annual Awards for Cinematography which are on Halloween night October 31 @ 6pm @ Hotel Grand Chancellor or Hindley St, Adelaide. Dress code: Halloween attire or smart casual. Sponsors can I use this opportunity to remind me get your assets in for the Awards Compile and Program by September 26.

There have been some changes to the Awards categories this year and the Awards committee encourages you all to use the links and make yourself familiar with both the 2015 Awards Categories and 2015 Award Entry Terms & Conditions documents. The Business of being a Cinematographer
We are having an information night on Monday September 14 outlining how to help run a successful career in the film industry. We will have accountant Michelle McAvaney from Pledge Accountants as she is familiar with the film industry and be able to advise us on things like: Should I have an ABN? Register for the GST? Be a Pty Ltd? Register a business name? How often should I invoice? What should be on an invoice? Record keeping / filing. What sort of insurances should I have; personal liability, equipment? When should I do my tax return? What are some of the deductions can I legitimately claim: work clothes, car use, petrol, sunscreen, going to the movies, ACS membership? This will be followed by a special screening of the Roger Deakins CBE BSC ASC Q&A that was held at the AFTRS Cinema. The venue is Anifex, 65 King William Rd, Kent Town 1815 for 1830 start. Video Q & A - ACS & AFTRS present Roger Deakins CBE ASC BSC
After our Business presentation we will be screening an ACS and AFTRS discussion with acclaimed cinematographer Roger Deakins CBE ASC BSC. This very special recorded interview, chaired by Kim Batterham ACS, in the AFTRS auditorium gives an informative, entertaining and candid insight into this masters career as one the worlds most eminent Directors of Photography. Filmed exclusively for ACS and AFTRS, the video includes scenes from his work which is discussed.
Roger Deakins is no doubt one of our greatest with a career reaching back 30 years. Well known collaborator of the Coen Brothers and Sam Mendes, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the ASC in 2011. His works include Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, Kundun, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, No Country for Old Men, A Beautiful Mind, Revolutionary Road, Prisoners, Skyfall and Unbroken. The list is incredible. Check out Roger's full filmography at IMDB. Tickets MUST be booked to ensure your seat, even if you are entitled to FREE Entry. ACS CineKids
You might know someone who may want to be an ACS CineKid, if so encourage them to join our newest membership category. - ACS CineKids - has been created to encourage and foster interested kids up to the age of 15 years to participate and take an active hands-on approach to Cinematography. An ACS CineKids Member is a young person, 15 years or under, who has a passion for cameras and filmmaking. ACS CineKids will receive a Welcome Pack with a membership certificate, membership card, note pad and pen, access to our E news both National & State, and various screenings and workshops, along with mentoring from our ACS cinematographers.
