AC Magazines

From the re-elected Pres............

We held the SA AGM in Adelaide on August 10 and, as there was no coup, the state of play is:

President: Ernie Clark ACS

Vice Presidents: Joanne Bouzianis-Sellick & Mark Evans

Secretary: David Woolford Assistant Secretary: Kirsty Stark

Treasurer: Mylene Ludgate Assistant Treasurer: Richard Back&

Committee Members: Jo Rossiter ACS, Clive Taylor ACS, Malcolm Ludgate ACS, Maxx Corkindale, Viv Madigan, Stephen Webb, Rod Bolton, Miles Rowland, David Tang and we welcome newbie David Gregan.

Our AGM was at the Hackney Hotel with drinks & snacks provided and a bit of fun with Bingo afterwards.

Bingo winners are grinners!

The winners won DVD packs of Andrew Lesnie ACS ASC films. There were 2 meat platter door prizes which were won by Ian Linton and Mal Ludgate ACS.

I must say I didn't realise how stressful bingo can be so I recommend not getting old!

Have you paid your Membership Fees? If not, they are now overdue, we need your funds to help us put on nights like our drone night and Screenings & Q&A's.

Of course if you are not financial you can't enter the awards, nor will you receive AC magazine and you cannot attend our events.

Something to put in your diary, on the Saturday afternoon before the awards, we are holding a Wastelander Panda Screening & Q&A held which will be co-hosted with Australian Society of Editors. This will be on October 31 so jot the date down.

The Business of being a Cinematographer

Following on from a suggestion at our recent AGM we will run an information night on September 14 outlining how to help run a successful career in the film industry. We will have an accountant, Michelle McAvaney from Pledge Accountants, who is familiar with the film industry advise us on things like:

Should I have an ABN? Register for the GST? Be a Pty Ltd? Register a business name? How often should I invoice? What should be on an invoice? Record keeping / filing. What sort of insurances should I have? i.e. Personal liability, equipment, etc
When should I do my tax return?

What can I legitimately claim, say for work clothes, car use? Petrol? Going to the movies. ACS membership!

This will be followed by a special screening of the Roger Deakins CBE BSC ASC Q&A that was held at the AFTRS Cinema.

Stay tuned for the venue and booking link which will be in the September eNews.

Maxx & Viv's Masterclass

Recently young, and very talented cinematographers, Viv Madigan and Maxx Corkindale joined Steve de Villiers at TAFE to put on a small quick filmmaking masterclass for year 10's from Investigator College.

And here are a couple of apprciation letters:

Hi Kirsty,

Just wanted to say thanks for organising Maxx and Viv to come along on Friday for the "Capture the Action" workshop at such short notice.

From all accounts it went well, and the kids were really receptive. I wasn't there but Steve tells me the guys did a great job, so thanks again for arranging.

Kind regards,

Chloe

On behalf of my students, I would like to extend a sincere thank you for the workshop on Friday. It was a truly unique and interesting experience for our group. Stephen, Viv and Maxx were absolutely outstanding with the students, so passionate about what they do and very engaging - not easy to do when our group was on their last day of camp and very tired!

My students are still buzzing about it - they loved the guys and got heaps out of the workshop. The tour was great too, as was lunch. Many of them are very creative in different ways and are keen to learn more about what they can do at the College.

Thank you again for working with us on this. Thank you so much for accommodating us and providing such a fantastic experience to our students. I hope to work with you again.
