WA Pres, Simon Akkerman ACS and I would like to remind our members that the 2015 35th SA & WA Annual Awards for Cinematography online entries will open soon on August 17 and close on September 18. In the meantime the Categories and Terms & Conditions have changed so check them out via the links below. You only have a month to get your best work together so start thinking about what you might enter.
Andrew Lesnie ACS ACS Memorial
Held on July 12 the Andrew Lesnise ACS ASC Memorial was a true celebration of this wonderful cinematographers life. Around 200 attended the event held at the very suitable venue of the Bondi Junction Event cinema where many recorded tributes from stars, directors, cinematographers and friends were played on the big screen. Ray Martin OAM MCd and notable speakers included Directors Bill Bennet, George Miller & Craig Monaghan, actors Cate Blanchet & Jack Thompson, Producer Andrew Mason, our National Pres Ron Johanson AM ACS and many others. The event was very well attended by Andrews friends who flew in from across the ditch. Peter Jacksons company generously supported the event, Andrew filmed 8 features over 17 years for Peter including the Academy Award winning Lord of the Rings trilogy. We were very fortunate in SA to have Andrew deliver his last ever Masterclass to our members. As our own SA member, Rod Bolton, said:
..please pass on the heartfelt feelings from the whole film community here in South Australia to the memory of this great and generous Cinematographer. We all learned and laughed a lot with this wonderful genius behind the camera !! : ) We have lost the best & friendliest in the biz!
