Still a few spaces left for this fantastic Masterclass so hurry and register. Andrew started his career shooting Simon Townsend's WonderWorld after studying at AFTRS. Since then he has shot numerous TVC's but he is well known for his work with New Zealand Director Peter Jackson whom he shot The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - for which he has been rewarded with an Oscar, a BAFTA, and numerous other awards and nominations. He also shot the original Babe, as well as King Kong, Love's Brother, Doing Time for Patsy Cline, and recently the about to be released Healing and Russell Crowe's debut film The Water Diviner. On Saturday May 3 Andrew is coming back to Adelaide especially to present this Masterclass for us. He will screen parts of films (not all his) and discuss coverage, dramatic points, how they were lensed or lit, etc, and have attendees involved in lighting exercises. This will be an all day event held at Anifex, 65 King William St, Kent Town from 9am - 1pm, break for lunch, then 2pm - 6pm. No Shows!Just a reminder about RSVP'ing and turning up.......or not!! We ask you to RSVP for various reasons including: making sure we don't overcrowd a venue, some venues require a guest list for security, some require more security or staff depending on the #'s, sometimes we need to organise drinks and/or catering, or sometimes presenters put a limit on the number of people they feel they can communicate to effectively. It is also a requirement to report attendances to our events when applying for funding. So please RSVP if you are intending to come and, if something unforeseen should occur, please let us know so we don't preclude someone else who was hoping to get in, nor waste money unnecessarily on catering, or extra security, etc. Oh and to make it easier on us, don't leave it until the last minute to RSVP. The official release date of Sundance winner 52 Tuesdays is May 1 but there is a preview screening and Q&A session @ 6:30pm April 29 at the Palace Nova in the city to be attended by Sophie Hyde, Bryan Mason, Matthew Cormack, as well as Tilda the main actor. http://www.palacecinemas.com.au/events/52tuesdaysqapreviewsa/ On May 4 at the Palace Nova @ 6:30pm there will be a, more industry focussed, extended Q&A after the screening of this International award winning film. Director Sophie Hyde, Writer Matthew Cormack and DoP Bryan Mason will be in attendance to answer your technical questions about how they achieved this very unusually shot film. FREEZE FRAME - ACS Airport Stills Exhibition 2014After successfully holding the National ACS Stills Exhibition at Adelaide Airport last year we thought we do it again but this time mount our own exhibition. We believe it will help raise the profile of our branch and our cinematographers. The exhibition is called: FREEZE FRAME - Still photographs by SA ACS Members Cinematographers normally film moving pictures at 25 frames per second but our exhibition concentrates on their still photographs freezing a moment in time. The pictures have been taken by members of the South Australian branch of the Australian Cinematographers Society. So now what we need is for you, our members, to go through your best stills and email them to us to see if they get selected for the exhibition. The stills will be blown up to max A3 size, mounted and framed by the SA Branch for hanging at Adelaide Airport. Works will be printed to approximately A3 size i.e if landscape 420mm wide, if portrait 297mm wide. Make sure the files of your stills have enough resolution to be blown up to this size. If you wish your photo to be framed in a particular ratio please indicate your composition on a scan of the photo or size your digital file in photoshop before emailing. We are asking for permission to sell the pictures at the exhibition and we will share the proceeds 50/50 with the photographer and the branch. Our 50% will assist in mounting the exhibition. By entering you agree we have the right to sell the exhibited pictures. There is not a theme for the exhibition other than the pictures are taken by cinematographers, there is no time limit to when they were taken, or the subject matter, or whether they originated on film or as a digital file. Email your pictures to us soon, we need to tell the Airport how much space we require. Maybe I'll enter Cauldron bubble.

A conversation with Denson Baker ACS was held on Monday April 14 in RSP's theatre. Many thanks to RSP for the venue. Denson chatted about his latest feature "The Untitled" Jim Loach project shot on the Sony F65 using the Leica Summilux-C lenses. We saw some great images and behind the scenes stuff as he took us through his photographic approach. It was also very interesting to hear how not all went to plan with the flies and the weather and how some of the creative solutions solved these problems. We really appreciate Denson staying back in Adelaide and presenting this night and answering the many questions he received. This format worked very well with lots of positive feedback from the members. All this washed down with a glass of wine or a beer and a bit of pizza. All in all - a great night.
