SA Kinemagraphe May 2012 - Nationals Winners, Zacuto Shootout Trade Night + Win Cash!

SA Members Win 2 Golden Tripods

The 2012 National ACS Awards for Cinematography were held in Sydney on Saturday May 5 at the Manly Pacific. Hosted by Ray Martin, with special guest Rebecca Gibney, it was a fantastic night, with several SA members making the trip over to Sydney.

Congratulations to SA members Daniel Soekov and Nick Matthews ACS, who each picked up a Golden Tripod on the night.

Daniel won in the International News category with his dramatic piece, "Libya Hotel Attacks." Unfortunately, he was unable to attend the ceremony as he was shooting overseas.

Nick's great work on "The Palace" won him the tripod in the Fictional Drama Shorts category. Congratulations to you both!

Clips from all of the award-winning entries are now available to view on the Showreelfinder website, via the link below.

DATE CHANGE: Zacuto Shootout Trade Night

*Please note that the date of this event has changed. It will now be held on May 15, 6:30pm at the SAFC Cinema at Adelaide Studios.*

Thanks to the efforts of Pete Hall at Urban Cine, the ACS SA Branch is pleased to be hosting a preview screening of The Revenge of the Great Camera Shootout 2012.

This preview screening is one of only two in Australia, and audience comments will be recorded for inclusion in the official online release on June 15, so web viewers can hear the opinions given by those seeing the test footage in 2K around the world.

In contrast to previous Shootouts, we will watch the test blind, meaning that the footage from each camera will be labelled with a letter. We will then be asked to write down our favourite letters in order of preference. The scenes will then be played again & Zacuto will reveal which camera is which, followed by more discussion.

Nearly all of the cameras tested in the Shootout will be available at the screening for those wishing to see them in person, including:

- ARRI Alexa
- RED Epic
- Sony FS100
- Sony F3 w/slog
- Canon 7D with Technicolor settings
- Panasonic GH2 (hacked and non-hacked)

We are also working on accessing a Sony F65 and Canon C300.

Rode microphones will also have products on display on the night, and are offering door prizes, consisting of a VideoMic Pro and some showbags.

The event is free to ACS members, and will include pizza and drinks for all attendees. Non-members are welcome to attend at a cost of $15 per person. ACS membership forms will be available for those wanting to join the society on the night. If you decide to become a member on the night, the price of entry will be included in your membership fee.

Red Dog Screening and Q&A

Mark Evans & Geoff Hall ACS

Multi award winning Director of Photography Geoff Hall ACS presented a fantastic screening and Q&A of the very successful Australian feature film Red Dog on Monday April 23rd.

There was a great turnout, with over 40 ACS members and guests visiting the SAFC theatre to view the film, followed by an enjoyable and informative Q&A session with Geoff over pizza and drinks in the atrium. It was great to hear about Geoff's experiences shooting the film, including stories about working with Koko the dog and the OH&S requirements of the mine sites (plus many technical camera and lighting questions of course!)

Thanks to Geoff and all who attended for a fantastic night.
