RedDog screening and Q&A

Multi award winning Director of Photography Geoff Hall ACS will present a screening of the very successful Australian feature film RedDog followed by a Q&A session after the screening.

Monday April 23 in the SAFC's new theatre @ 6:30pm sharp followed by drinks, snacks and the Q&A.

Phone-tography Competition

The ACS SA branch is having a phone-tography competition.

Phone-tography? You may well ask!

Well we are after are photos taken at work, on set, on location, photos related to filming, but the photos MUST be taken on a Phone and then submitted into our Phone-tography competition. It's not just about the image but could also be about the subject matter, the location, the people, the occasion. You could win a CASH PRIZE with a total prize pool of $875.

The photos must be taken after April 1 2012 and submitted before 31/7/2012 will be judged in 4 Categories:

1. Best composition
2. Most creative
3. Funniest photo
4. People's Choice (voting for Cat 4 will take place @ 2012 AGM)

Criteria:

1. Entry is free and only open to SA branch ACS members
2. Photos must be taken on a Phone after 1/4/12 and submitted before 31/7/12
3. Photos to be taken "On the Job" i.e at work, on set, on location
4. Entrants agree by the act of entering the ACS SA branch Phonetography Competition that they give the ACS the right to publish the photos as they see fit
5. To enter email acsphotocomp@gmail.com please ensure your phone #, name and category you wish to enter are sent with each entry
6. Please consider the photos may be seen publicly
7. The decisions of the judging panel will be final and binding. The judges may use their discretion and not award all prizes
8. Winners will be announced at the SA branch AGM in August

The 2012 National ACS Awards for Cinematography will be held in Sydney on Saturday May 5 at the Manly Pacific to be hosted by Ray Martin, with a very special guest from Canberra making an appearance and with entertainment from our very own Pieter de Vries and his All Stars.

Don't forget to have your say in the International Award for Cinematography. Voting closes in the next two days, so don't miss out!

This award is for Excellence in Cinematography and is open to ANY feature film cinematographer working on the international stage. The nominated Cinematographer does not have to be a member of the Australian Cinematographers Society and may be of any nationality. You must be an ACS Member to nominate, and only your first nomination will be accepted.

The Shadowcatchers - Order Now

The Shadowcatchers: a history of cinematography in Australia, is a stylish and beautifully produced 288-page coffee table book containg over 380 photographs of working cinematographers taken on film sets from 1901 to the present, along with a ground-breaking historical text, biographies and anecdotes from some of the great characters of our industry.

Only 2000 of the standard edition of the book will be published, and we know they will go fast. Please note that the hardbound collector's edition (signed by the Society's Academy Award winners) will be limited to 250 numbered copies, so if you want to reserve one for yourself or for a friend be sure to order asap.

The hard cover Limited Edition of 250 copies is $250 per book inc GST, signed by the ACS Oscar winners, and the soft cover Edition of 2,000 copies at $66 per book inc GST. Postage for both editions is additional.
