SA/WA Perth Awards Bookings Now Open
The online bookings for the 31st SA & WA Awards for Cinematography are now open. This is the first combined SA & WA Awards to be held in Western Australia, at the Perth Royal Yacht Club @ 6:00pm on Saturday November 5. Comedian and actor Peter Rowsthorn, well known as the long-suffering husband and pants-man on "Kath & Kim," will MC the event so it should be lots of fun. We already have ten SA members going so lets see if we can get a couple of tables of ten there. Tickets are $110 inc GST. Go to the link below to book your tickets & select the Perth event. If SA members are interested in attending and need a little assistance, please contact Ernie Clark ACS. SA sponsors can use their complimentary tickets at either the Awards in Western Australia or the Awards Dinner in Adelaide. Sponsors, please "book" your sponsor tickets online via the link below. Book early as there only 100 seats at the venue.
Concurrent Adelaide Awards Dinner
In Adelaide we are holding a concurrent Awards Dinner @ 7:30pm in the upper restaurant at the Maylands Hotel, Clifton St, Maylands on Saturday Nov 5. We will be handing out the SA sponsors plaques and the MRC Student Encouragement $3K prize at this dinner. A three course meal will be served, including drinks, for the low price of $77 including GST, so go to the link below and book your tickets for the 2011 SA Awards Dinner. We are organising a link from the Awards ceremony in Perth, so after dinner you will be able to hear who has won what. SA sponsors wishing to attend our SA dinner still need to go online to "book" their complimentary tickets. Please book early as this venue only caters for 80. Go to the link below & select the Adelaide Event.
HDSLR Night
On Monday night, October 10, we held a very successful HDSLR Night, with 55 eager members and non-members turning up to hear from our presenters, enjoy a drink & pizza, and catch up on the latest accessories for this fast-developing format. We had Pete Hall offer up 'An Intro to HDSLR Shooting' and he showed us lots of amazing accessories for the cameras, as well as offering a handout full of information. If anyone missed out on this information, please contact Pete at Urban Cine. Miles Rowland then presented on the topic of using HDSLRs for shooting timelapse and showed us his impressive slider and incredible timelapse footage. After a short break, Sam King gave an informative program on shooting drama with HDSLRs, showing us the rigs used on Rolf de Heer's latest feature film, The King is Dead. Nima Nabili Rad & Daniel Principe wound up the night, presenting a great session on the post paths for HDSLRs and showing some examples of colour grading. Many thanks to the guys at Stepney Studios in Henry St, Stepney for letting us take over their space and also thanks to the presenters for sharing their experiences and knowledge so freely. More photos from the night are available on the ACS SA Facebook page.
