Peter James ACS ASC Screening & Q&A

ACS SA is pleased to announce that the four time Milli Award Winner, Peter James ACS ASC, will screen his latest collaboration with Director Bruce Beresford the feature film Ladies in Black.

Peter is the cinematographer behind critically acclaimed and popular films such as Driving Miss Daisy, Black Robe, Meet the Parents, Mao's Last Dancer and more recently Ladies in Black.

After running the film he will explain the grading, VFX, studio lighting, location problems, etc. Peter will answer questions as we go.

He will also present his views on the importance of the script breakdown, pre-production and collaboration with all departments both creative and administrative.

Although his presentation is about making a Feature Film, his approach can apply to any film, short, doco or commercial. A lot of the problems and responses are the same and Cinematographers always have to work with other people.

Join fellow members, sponsors and guests on May 1 at the SAFC theatre (enter via rear doors) and take the opportunity to learn from one of Australia’s most experienced and finest cinematographers.

When: Wednesday night May 1, 6 for 6:30 Start until 9:30pm approx

Where: SAFC Theatre - entry via rear door only

How Much? (Includes a free welcome drink):
ACS members & sponsors free
Students and other Guilds $5
General Admission $10

RSVP is essential via the trybooking link below - a map to get to the SAFC rear door is on the booking site.

From the Pres

Cardboard Addicts Doco

One of our members, Lennon Cooper, not only shot the doco Cardboard Addicts, he wrote, edited, and directed it as well. As Lennon is a sports card collector himself, this was one story he wasn’t prepared to hand over to someone else.

I hear the project was so well received by ESPN that after seeing early snippets, they offered to extend it from 48mins (allowing for ads) to a full 60mins and they would run it ad-free.

ESPN have also expressed interest in Lennon producing a worldwide version in the coming months.

Check it out as Cardboard Addicts premieres April 10, this Wednesday night at 8:30pm on ESPN.

CineKids All Things Camera Day

How lucky are our CineKids, on Sunday April 28 some of our best young DoP's will take our CineKids through All Things Camera including composition / coverage / crossing the line / editing / files / storage / analysing a film, etc.

The day will be held at Anifex studio in Kent Town and run from 10am until 5pm.

The CineKids have been asked to bring their own cameras / tripods along and any questions or topics they wish to learn more about.

We'll probably see some of these young CineKids shooting fabulous pictures professionally before too long.

Want to be ACS National Secretary?

Our diligent National Secretary for many years, David Wakeley ACS, has advised us that he will not be nominating for the National Secretary position at the National AGM in May in Melbourne.

So here is your chance to give back to the society and get involved at the National level.

If you are interested in nominating for this vitally important role please contact me asap as nominations close before the end of this month.

May I take this opportunity to thank David for his huge contribution to the ACS, he has been on ACS committees for over 25 years!

West of Sunshine Wrap Up

On Monday night we had the screening & Q&A of West of Sunshine at RSP. Thanks very much to DoP Thom Neal, RSP and Alex Meddick.

Thom shot the film in only 15 days with 3 extra 2 hour night shoots. This project was a labour of love and it certainly didn't suffer from the extremely tight schedule and small budget.

Keep an eye out for it and go see it if you get the chance.

DoP Thom Neal (standing) takes us through some of the challenges in shooting the film.

ProAV Solutions NAB Wrap Up

Please book via the link below the poster.
