May I take this opportunity to wish you and your families all the best for a fantastic, safe and healthy 2021. Happy shooting!

If you haven't already picked up your winning plaques (as apparently 3 or 4 haven't) you need to do so before he end of January as we will no longer be able to leave them at Anifex since they have sold the building. Collect during office hours, 65 King William Street, Kent Town.

We have a great lighting course coming up at the end of January so check out the deets in the next item and book real soon as spaces are very limited
.

Forty three members attended our Annual Xmas drinks at the Colonist Hotel on Monday, December 14. A very good night was had by all accounts. Johanis Lyons-Reid won a dinner voucher for $100, Michael Tessari a free membership, Richard Chataway ACS a free entry into 2021 State Awards and Dusan Jonic an ACS merch pack.

Due to COVID-19 we were only allowed 50 attendees, which is the number of bookings we received. If you book for our events and can't make it please cancel your booking asap as we often have a wait list for those who try to book after the max # is achieved. This time we had 7 no shows who did not cancel their bookings so others missed out.
Lighting 101 Course

Our first event for 2021 is a fantastic two day educational course on some of the complexities of lighting to be held at Anifex studio in Kent Town.

When the script says "...it's a moonless night, there is no light....our actor sees something in the distance...we see terror come across their face"... how do you handle that? or, "...we open on a white set, where all the props are white, all the actors, dressed in white, they have white Scandinavian hair, the product is in white bottles"...how do you handle that?... or candle light, lantern or firelight scenes?...or, "....this scene is all shot at dusk"....and it's 9 pages long!... how do you handle that? How do you break down a script? Come up with a visual style? So many things to learn about.

Our main presenter is three times Milton Ingerson ACS Best Entry winner the very talented Geoffrey Hall ACS.

Geoffrey will be supported by a list of other superb SA ACS committee member cinematographers including Maxx Corkindale, Michael Tessari & David Gregan as well as Gaffer Graeme Shelton with his large truck of lighting gear and Best Boy Dave Smith and Key Grip John Smith.

We'll have a camera & lenses supplied by SA Gold Sponsor Picture Hire and lunches will be supplied. The course will be over two full days on the weekend of January 30 & 31.

We are limiting the course participants to a maximum of 12 so they all get the most information and interaction with the course presenters.

Here's the chance to learn from some of the SA's best cinematographers so make sure you get in early and book now as this will be our last event in the Anifex Studio.
