President's Address: COVID-19

Dear cinematographers and friends,

We live in extraordinary and challenging times.

Many of our members have lost most if not all of their work almost overnight with the downturn in productions.

Upcoming face-to-face events that ACS QLD had planned have been cancelled or postponed.

We are working to hold online sessions with DPs discussing their work, so do watch this space, and if you have suggestions for online events please contact us.

We understand how difficult these times are and will offer any assistance that we can.

Financial Support

The recently announced JobKeeper Payment Scheme aims to support employees and businesses. A business with a turnover of less than $1 billion where their turnover will be reduced by more than 30 per cent relative to a comparable period a year ago (of at least a month) can apply for the scheme, which will provide a provide $1,500 per fortnight per employee for up to 6 months.

Sole traders and businesses with a single employee are eligible for this program.

Gene Moyle: Out of the Blue

Last year in April, performnce and sports psychologist Professor Gene Moyle held a presentation on navigating the mental and physical health hazards of freelancing in cinematography, and how best to maintain a positive headspace. This month, we thought it was timely to revisit this presentation, courtesy of ACS Queensland treasurer Mick Fanning.
