BIFF: Queensland Emerging Screen Talent Career Fair
|
|
QEST is back, and with the overwhelming success of last year's turnout, the event has been expanded to two days!
The ACS will be exhibiting at the QEST Careers Fair, proudly supported by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland and taking place during the Brisbane International Film Festival. On the floor will be Queensland's major universities, organisations and guilds offering career options in the film and screen sector, with our booth free to visit to answer any and all of your questions. Additionally. ACS member Luis Brun is convening a panel on finding freelance work in the camera department, with our own Vice-President Julian Panetta featuring as a panellist! (This specific panel will take place on Tuesday 8th October, commencing at 12:00pm and wrapping up at 1:15pm)
This is a great opportunity for secondary and tertiary students, recent film school graduates and emerging practitioners without formal training, to build your career to hear from established screen practitioners about the pathways they took into the industry.
The conference panels will take place at the QAGOMA Cinematheque, with the first day, Tuesday 8th October, focusing on the Screen Futures theme, whilst the second day, Wednesday 9th October, will be focusing on the Screen Careers theme. The career fair will be open from 8:30am to 10:00am on the morning of the second day at the State Library’s Queensland Terrace. While this is a free event, bookings are essential, so make sure you grab your tickets by clicking the button below!

Postwrap: ARRI Alexa Mini LF Event
Thank you to all who attended the Get Up Close event with the red-hot Alexa Mini LF. Between 3 large format sensors, 4 sets of large format glass and a healthy amount of beer, this hands on event brought students, novices and seasoned practitioners together to all play with the newest innovation from ARRI, followed by an intensive presentation from ARRI Australia's Sean Dooley on the intricacies of large format, what makes the Mini unique, and the benefits of ARRI's signature primes.
Massive thanks are in order to Tim Jordin and the rest of the Lemac crew, and Sean Dooley from ARRI Australia, for providing the cameras, lenses and support, as well as Glenn Jones and Shed Light for providing grip and lighting. Images are courtesy of Mark Broadbent, and highlights video courtesy of Lucas Tomoana, which are all available at our Facebook page - link at the bottom of the newsletter. Finally, none of this would be possible without Luke Nixon and Soapbox Beer, without which the event would not be nearly as fun!
