ACS 55th Annual Awards for Cinematography
Now is the time to enter into the 2021 ACS QLD/NT Awards for Cinematography. Submissions are open between August 1st and August 21st.

With just over a week left to get your best work in, ACS would like to encourage  members to submit into the annual awards. Whether you're a cinematography veteran or student, the awards are open to most

Submit your work and have a chance to take home a bronze, silver or gold plaque. Gold awards are the only way to enter the National Awards the following year where you could win an Award of Distinction, a Gold Tripod and maybe even the coveted Milli Award for best cinematographer of the year.

One thing is for sure - if you don’t enter, you can’t win.
Make sure you read the Awards Categories and Terms and Conditions before entering using the links below.

THE ENTRY DEADLINE IS AUGUST 21ST AT 11:59PM

We look forward to seeing your work, Good Luck!

NB: The Entry Form is only open at these times. No late entries will be accepted.
You must be a current financial ACS member to be able to enter.

Thank You: Tim Jordin
This week we’re announcing the our beloved Vice President, Tim Jordin, will be stepping down from his office bearing position.

None of the committee (or Tim himself) know how long he’s been Vice President for, though we’re estimating in the realm of 7-10 years. Tim has been an essential pillar of the Queensland branch and in particular the state awards.

For many years Tim has been working in the background; downloading and conforming entires, running judging sessions, collating data, as well as directing the awards night itself. On a broader level, Tim has shared his encyclopaedic knowledge of the ACS with every iteration of the committee that has come after him. In a way he has been the singular constant that we have relied on for so many years. In addition to his local contributions, he has represented the Queensland branch at countless National AGMs and OGMs, as well as sitting on the technical subcommittee.

Every member of the ACS has benefitted from Tim’s enormous contribution, so on behalf of our entire membership, Tim we thank you!

If you see Tim around, please be sure to buy him a beer!

From National President, Ron Johanson OAM ACS.

stalwart Pronunciation /ˈstɔːlwət/ /ˈstɒlwət/ A loyal, reliable, and hard-working supporter of, or participant in an organization or team.

We may have lost the immediate services of Tim Jordin as a Vice President, but as a stalwart of our Society, he is second to none and remains as one whose record of service speaks for itself. Whether in his guise as Lemac Manager, or the many hats he has worn within the ACS, I cannot thank Tim enough for the contribution he has made both at the Branch and at the National level. Of course as a friend and colleague to so many, Tim is never short of an encouraging word or some well meaning guidance.

He is renowned as the “go to guy” with any technical questions or those of practicalities. He will of course be missed, but fortunately he will still be lurking in the vicinity. Thanks so much my French filmmaking friend Timothy Jordaaaaaan and also to Sarah and of course little Penny who have shared you with us.

From outgoing Queensland president, Erika Addis.

About Tim Jordin, the French filmmaker. What can I say? Rides a Harley Davidson – that tells you a lot immediately. (Likes to make a lot of noise, turn heads etc) One of a kind, hates a chat, never gives up, shows up, keeps saying what if? Tim’s corporate memory of ACS QLD events and people should be downloaded and backed up ASAP. Tim is The Best guy to have on your team. A gazillion thank yous Tim for saving (no names) arses on many many occasions.
Christmas in August Drinks: CANCELLED
With the uncertainty in SEQ, we are announcing that this event will be cancelled and would like to apologies for the inconvenience.

Please keep an eye out for your refund notice.
Jason Hargreaves ACS & Virtual Production: Recap

On the 29th of July, Jason Hargreaves ACS was kind enough with his time to divulge into many of his recent escapades working with virtual production technology to achieve the next-to-impossible. With his breadth of experience working with hot-off-the-press Unreal Engine technology for his latest short release, he was able to give our small but fixated audience a complete run-through of the advantages, shortcomings, workarounds and little tricks of virtual production environments as are available in Queensland.

Jason's behind-the-scenes collateral and especially his anamorphic camera tests using Big Picture's LED Walls were detailed and insightful, and those who attended left with a more holistic understanding of where this tech is going and its current limitations.

If you missed out on the 29th, fret not! Our friends at GFS filmed the presentation on the night, so stay tuned for that interviews release in the coming weeks. In the meantime, if you're interested in what this tech can do, head to our IG and take a look at our recent interviews with Jason and other key members of the Virtual Production presentation Cutting Edge hosted with support from the QLD ACS branch.
