MANHUNT screening and Q&A with
Robert Humphreys ACS - RECAP

ACS Queensland had the pleasure of hosting Robert Humphreys ACS for a special screening of the first episode of the newly released Apple TV+ series, "Manhunt" shot by Robert. We were also thrilled to welcome Kate Henshaw from Apple TV+, who joined us from Sydney for this event.

The screening was followed by an engaging Q&A session, where topics ranged from landing the job, developing and presenting a visual style, difference between working on sets in the US and Australia. Additionally, the discussion delved into technical details, such as the creation and application of LUTs and choices regarding equipment packages.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Apple TV+ and Griffith Film School for their generous support in providing a DCP and a venue for the evening, making this event possible.

VALE RIKI BYRNE
Riki was a vibrant and deeply loved member of the camera department. A graduate of the University of Southern Queensland and Queensland University of Technology, she devoted close to 30 years to her work in the camera department.

Toby Oliver ACS remembers Riki on set "wonderful to have beside me on set, excellent at her job and so warm and a considerate presence on set."

Some of her credits include 'True Spirit', 'The Kettering Incident', 'The Condemned' and 'Nowhere Boys' working across features and tv shows.

She loved colour, scarves and sparkles, radiated positive energy and was the solid rock for many DoPs she worked with.

Miranda Porter, a close colleague, shares her profound admiration and respect, saying, 'Riki was my right hand, my confidant, and my unwavering support. She kept me pushing, even when the odds seemed insurmountable. In an industry where women of our era are definitely scarce, Riki’s presence was not only invaluable but groundbreaking.

Echoing this sentiment, VA Digital captures the collective heartache and admiration, noting, 'So sad to learn the news of the passing of Riki Byrne. Everyone loved Riki, not only for her professionalism but she was a ray of sunshine. Always a complete joy to be around.' Together, these reflections celebrate Riki as both a trailblazer and a beacon of positivity, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
