2016 ACS NATIONAL AWARDS - QLD WRAPUP

John Seale AM ACS ASC with his Milli Award

Our colleagues down in Adelaide certainly know how to put on a great show!! Last week saw the Southern Light Expo and the biggest event in the ACS calendar - the 2016 ACS National Awards for Cinematography, which was held on Saturday 30th April.

Held over two days, the Southern Light Expo was a great opportunity to see some of the fantastic new products and services on offer from the ACS National sponsors and suppliers, and also provided attendees with the opportunity to attend the many free workshops, events and screenings.

Along with the expo, some very special events included Dean Semler’s ‘Road to Hollywood’ documentary screening presented by Mr David Brill ACS, as well as a "Meet the Nominees" screening and Q & A session, moderated by Mr Kim Batterham ACS.

The expo concluded with a full day of "How They Shot That!!", where members spent an entire day with Mr John Seale AM ACS ASC as well as special guests David Burr ACS and Peter James ACS ASC - a truly once in a lifetime experience for those who attended.

The 2016 ACS National Awards, held at the Adelaide Convention Centre, were a wonderful celebration of the best cinematographers from all states and territories.

The Qld Branch would like to congratulate Mr Peter Steer, who received a Gold Tripod for his work on "Carjack Cameraman", as well as Leigh Hubner ACS who received another Gold Tripod for his exceptional work on "The Power of Ten", and Scott Kimber, who also went home with a coveted Gold Tripod for his work on "Processes-Ruby & Prankster".

John Seale AM ACS ASC was the favourite this year, and along with his contribution award from the Society, John received the prestigious MILLI AWARD as our 2016 Australian Cinematographer of the Year for his work on "Mad Max - Fury Road".

Of course, our very own Qld member, and National ACS President Mr Ron Johanson OAM ACS, who tirelessly gives his all for the benefit of the Society, was emotionally awarded a special recognition from member Erika Addis in appreciation for his support for female cinematographers and women of the camera department.

Special Awards also went to the wonderful Sue Greenshields and Lemac, along with Paul Jackson from Panavision, for their very long standing support of the ACS.

Thanks to all the nominees and be sure to get your 2016 entries into the Qld State Awards (entries open August 2016), for your chance to be part of the next ACS National Awards, which will be held in May 2017.
