The ACS QLD BRANCH would like to wish you all a Happy New Year and the best of success in 2015. Last year closed with a fantastic ACS QLD AWARDS ceremony held at Southport Sharks Event Centre, with congratulations again going to all the entrants for the incredible work submitted across 20 categories.

From the judges and delegates in attendance on the night, as well as viewers on the live web stream, we have had many comments in regards to the impressive work from all of you. Congratulations again to all the winners for 2014, with all the Gold winners carried into the 2015 National ACS Awards, which will be held in Tasmania on May 2nd - head down for a weekend away and be part of this!

There has been a change of guard at the ACS QLD BRANCH for 2015. In the first week of January, the Qld committee met and we have to let you know Jason Hargreaves ACS has reluctantly stood down as President to spend more precious time with his family between increasing work commitments. We have been honoured to have Jason serve his term as President of the ACS QLD Branch. The society and all our members & sponsors wish him the best and thank him, in ernest, for his input to our industry. Jason will continue to support the ACS as a valued committee member.

It was unanimously agree that Tony O'Loughlan, who tirelessly keeps the ACS QLD branch running on full steam from behind-the-scenes, will finally take the helm of President of the Qld Branch for 2015. Congratulations Tony, a position well deserved and suited to such a long standing, inspiring and committed ACS member.

The Inaugural STAGE ONE FILM FESTIVAL 2015

The ACS QLD Branch is a proud supporter of The Inaugural Stage One Film Festival, to be held in the Roxy Cinema at Warner Bros Movie World, is on this Saturday 17th January. The Red Carpet Gala Evening will primarily showcase locally produced short films consisting of one single continuous shot only—no edits, cuts, or transitions whatsoever.

The Best One Shot Film award will be announced on the night, as well as additional awards in the categories of Best Cinematography, Best Actor and Best Actress. A second category open to regular (non-one shot) films will be eligible for consideration as Best Film, and the ACS is also awarding best Cinematography in this category for entry level filmmakers. The Stage One Inaugural Film Festival is the first event of its kind ever to be hosted at Warner Bros Movie World, Hollywood on the Gold Coast. Tickets to the screening and awards on this Saturday 17th January down at Warner Bros Movie World are still available from the website www.stage-one.com.au

ACS NATIONAL AWARDS - 2nd May 2015.

For the first time in its proud history the Australian Cinematographers Society has chosen Hobart, Tasmania as the host city for its annual awards. The 44th ACS Awards ceremony will be held in Hobart on Saturday May 2nd 2015.

The venue is the iconic Museum of Old and New Art, MONA.Guests will travel by fast luxury ferry from Hobart docks to MONA, the perfect introduction to an evening to remember. Come and see the Southern Light and take advantage of the many exclusive travel and accommodation offers for ACS members.

This is the excuse you have always wanted to finally go to the best place in Australia. Come and see the island State in all its autumnal splendour and after the Awards stay awhile and explore the rest of Tassie... and then write it all off on tax!

2014 QLD AWARDS

Also, if you are still to pick up Awards entry media (hard drives, USB flash drives DVDs etc), your material is available for collection from Tim Jordin at LEMAC in Bowen Hills.

Media unclaimed by the end of February will be recycled and retained for use by ACS QLD.

Applications for Screen Culture 2015-16 funding are now open

Screen Queensland has today opened applications for the 2015-16 Screen Culture Funding Program. The deadline for submissions is Monday 30 March 2015.

Applications are for events taking place during the 2015-16 financial year commencing 1 July 2015 (until 30 June 2016.)

Screen Culture funding supports Queensland-based events and projects across the state that help facilitate cultural activities and promote an understanding of film as a cultural experience.

Funding supports cultural events and projects based in Queensland or linked with Queensland organisations and practitioners (in any format or on any platform) such as:
- Film festivals;
- Workshops;
- Public events that seek to engage and inform Queensland audiences about screen culture activities plus promote film as a cultural experience and facilitate an understanding of the Queensland and Australian screen production industry within a broad global context;
- Tours and/or visitations by leading filmmakers and projects of significance to screen practitioners that foster debate, discussion and peer contact.
