ONE CLEVER LENS

FUJIFILM has announced that it has officially launched its new FUJINON XA55×9.5 HDTV lens. The clever new addition to the lineup of HDTV lenses offers both 55x high-power zoom and high optical performance and making it ideal for sports broadcasts, concerts and live productions.

The XA55×9.5 is an HD field lens that offers both 55x high-power zoom and high optical performance with excellent resolution, transparency and colour reproduction using the latest optical simulation technology. The XA55×9.5 also features FUJIFILM’s proprietary optical stabilisation as a standard for the first time for 50-60x class field lenses.

The XA55×9.5 is also installed with the 16bit encoder which outputs zoom, focus position and other lens data at high resolution and can work with a virtual system that combines a CG image with a live shooting image. As the XA55×9.5 has a built-in lens supporter which portable cameras can be directly attached to, the lens can also be used without preparing a new lens supporter.

NEGLAB REOPENING: NOW WE HAVE A CHOICE

Breaking news from Lawrence Horsburgh at Kodak advises that Werner Winkelmann will reopen NegLab in Sydney and are currently installing film processing equipment. We don't have a opening date just yet, but Werner has said Neglab will be up running late September early October 2013, and processing services include ECN 35mm & 16mm. SPRING IS DEFINITELY IN THE AIR!
So if you are one who has been lamented the demise of the film labs there is only one way to keep NegLab (and Kodak) going. SHOOT FILM whenever you can.

SONY BRINGS 4K TO THEIR HANDHELD RANGE

Sony today announced the PXW-Z100, a professional 4K handheld XDCAM camcorder featuring a 1/2.3" Exmor R CMOS sensor. The sensor has a total of 16 million pixels, allowing the camcorder to capture stunning 4K content (4096x2160) at 50p or 60p. This camcorder marks Sony’s latest step in expanding the 4K world to everyone, from high-end cinema to corporate and event productions.

The PXW-Z100, together with its fixed 4K-compatible high-performance G Lens, weighs less than 3kg and uses the XAVC recording format first used in the PMW-F55 CineAlta camera. As with the F55, 4K (4096 x 2160, 50p or 60p, 4:2:2, Intra-frame, 10-bit recording in MXF file format) is possible at a high-bit rate of 500Mbps or 600Mbps. QFHD (3840x2160) and HD (1920x1080) resolutions can also be selected, both of which are compatible with most 4K TVs.

Sony Australia and New Zealand Senior Product Manager for Content Creation Nick Buchner said, “This innovative new camcorder is capable of capturing very impressive 4K content, making 4K acquisition accessible to a wider range of professional users than ever before. Corporate and event videographers will now be able to easily deliver 4K content across a wide range of platforms including video wall and large projection applications, as well as take advantage of the greater flexibility in post production that 4K acquisition offers when delivering in HD.”

The PXW-Z100 will be available in Australia and New Zealand from November 2013.
