A letter from outgoing President Tim McGahan ACS

Well it has been three years for me in the role of QLD State PresidentÂ…. A challenging role, very demanding but ultimately a rewarding experience. As I wrote when I first took on the job The ACS plays an invaluable role in the film community, it unites cinematographers; it provides a platform for workshops, master classes and screenings to develop skills within the industry. Through the state and national awards the ACS encourages and rewards quality work in the field of cinematography and the Society also provides a benchmark of excellence through the peer assessed ACS accreditation all of which is no small feat for a voluntary society. To be a part of this process, with an amasing group of like-minded, passionate individuals on a state and national level has been truly a highlight.

I demand high standards of myself, with a certain level of commitment and performance and unfortunately due to my increasing work commitments I feel that my ability to continue to perform in the role of President will be compromised and for that reason this current term will be my last and I will not be accepting any nominations for re-election. This is not a decision that I have made lightly. It has been a pleasure to serve as the President to give back to a Society that has given so much to so many in our field over the years.

I would like to acknowledge the extraordinary work of the team around me including the current and past committee, the Federal Executive, Federal President Ron Johanson ACS, Leigh Christensen, Simon Russell, Mitch Kennedy and last but not least Karen Hayward who always goes above and beyond for the Society.

My main aim when I took on this role was to ensure the great work of the ACS continued and to ensure an inclusive culture that extended beyond established cinematographers to our sponsors, equipment, facilities and service suppliers and the teams that make up a cinematographers crews. I hope that in some way I achieved this.

Thank you for the opportunity to represent the QLD ACS in this role and I look forward to assisting the incoming President to take the branch through the next phase.

Tim McGahan ACS.
