A message from the President

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Congratulations to all our gold NSW winners who are nominees in the upcoming National ACS awards to be held at the National Gallery in Canberra on Saturday May Ist.

Whether you are a nominee or not, I encourage you to join friends and colleagues for a weekend showcasing some of the best cinematography from across Australia. As well as the awards on the Saturday night we have some exciting free side events presented by some of our wonderful sponsors.

Hope to see some of you there!!

Our April ACS NSW Drop In will be held in person this Thursday April 15^th from 6pm featuring underwater cinematographer Dean Cropp who has dropped anchor in Sydney Harbour this week so he can come and share some of his vast experience.

His contribution to the screen from his underwater world include productions: Penguin Bloom (underwater), Night on Earth (Netflix), Me and the Sea (Ocean Film Festival-dop), Shark Alarm (Seven Network) Blue Zoo (ABC) producer, dop, Storm Surfers 3D (underwater dop) and also his self produced series of Escape into Isolation. Due to covid restrictions advance bookings will be essential.

Before I sign off today, I’d like to acknowledge the sudden passing of our friend and colleague, John “JC” Clabburn. I’m sure many of you have had the pleasure of working with John who was a Ist AD in our close knit industry. His friendship and good humour will be greatly missed and the ACS extends our condolences to both his family and friends.

Guest Speaker Dean Cropp

Join us in person for this months Drop In with our very special guest, cinematographer Dean Cropp.

Dean has been around cameras his entire life. As a toddler he entered your lounge room via "The World Around Us" -- the documentary series was filmed by ACS Hall of Fame cinematographer Ben Cropp AM ACS.

Dean will discuss his specialised underwater world spanning the genres of news, current affairs and lifestyle.

His contributions to TV and cinemas screens include: Penguin Bloom, "Night on Earth", Me and the Sea, "Shark Alarm", "Blue Zoo", Storm Surfers 3D and also his self-produced series "Escape into Isolation".

NB: Registrations essential as numbers are limited due to current Covid restrictions.
