A Message from the NSW President

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I can’t believe its already December! It’s been a busy year for the ACS NSW hosting some wonderful Drop Ins as well as both the National Awards in May and NSW / ACT Branch Awards last month which included the judging panels and accreditation panels leading up to the awards. None of this important work could be done without the dedication of all the people who volunteer their time to make this all happen as well as our many fantastic sponsors whose ongoing support allows us to offer our membership so many great events. Thank you all!

Our community is strong and growing and it’s been great to see the camaraderie and new connections being forged over the past year.

Our End of Year Celebration has been brought forward a week to Thursday Dec 14^th kicking off at 6.30pm. We have teamed up with ARRI Australia again this year who will be hosting the evening at their premises in North Ryde. Last year was a lot of fun as I’m sure this year will be. This event is free to members and sponsors and has plenty of outdoor space, please see below for details.

Tomorrow night our friends at Lemac are hosting a Cooke SP3 Primes Lens night which will be a great opportunity to test out the new lenses, details are below and RSVPs required.

This Friday night, Dec 8^th we have the Combined Guilds End of Year Drinks to be held at EQ at Moore Park, ticket link below in newsletter.

A big thanks to Denson Baker ACS NZCS who was our Drop In Guest last month and very generous in talking us through his work on 2 recent feature projects.

I wish all of our members and sponsors a Happy Holiday Season and hope that you can take a break to spend some quality time with friends and family.

Let’s all hope for world peace over this holiday season and into the New Year.

Bradfield College
Equipment Drive

Looking for donations of equipment!

Bradfield College is a unique high school for year 11 and 12 students run through NSW TAFE on the grounds of St Leonards TAFE. It especially caters for young adults that don’t fit into the traditional school system with a strong focus on the creative industries.

The students are highly motivated and relatively mature and the program is ambitious. Because of its connection with TAFE, the school’s focus is on vocational as well as artistic expression. For example, next year they will have around 100 students enrolled in the TAFE Cert 3 course in Screen and Media, and 160 students will make a collaborative film next year as part of a workplace project. Here is a link to the school. In the last 4-5 years the enrollment in visual arts at the school has tripled, which has placed quite a bit of pressure on their resources.

What they need:

Lighting modifiers. e.g. C stands, light shaping tools such as cutters, blacks, diffusion, bounce boards. Also micro LED’s

Canon EF or Sony E lenses. Particularly primes or 2.8 zooms, macro, shift/tilt

Camera filters

Light weight tripods

Slider, gimbal, pocket jib

Anything else considered!

Oz team WIN spot in Ed Sheeran Music Video Competition

Cinematographer Callum Riddell and Director Chris Elder were chosen by Ed Sheeran and his team as part of a world-wide competition to make one of 14 narrative music videos for his new album. No two music videos came from the same country.
