November Drop In

We have two presentations scheduled for our November Drop In.

The first will be from director Simon Rippingale and cinematographer Brycen Horne. You may remember Visual Effects specialist Mark van den Bergen at a Drop In a few months ago. Mark discussed his role as the VFX supervisor on Simon's film "Jasper" - he gave a wonderful presentation. At the time the film was in post production so we were unable to view Mark's finished work.

"Jasper" has now been completed and Simon will screen it as a followup to Mark's original presentation.

Next up will be Lester Bishop of Black Bishop Films. Many of you will know Lester as a well established key grip and as a designer and manufacturer of high quality film industry specific equipment. From the smallest of camera accessories, grip equipment of all types, one off bespoke rigs to his remote controlled Orbital Arm Lester has designed and built it all in his well equipped state of the art machine shop.

Lester Bishop

His latest product is the Nomad Arm. A vertically stabilised gimbal platform, the Nomad is designed to be mounted in conjunction with a remote head on a tracking vehicle front or rear. Height of the head can be varied in shot from 450mm to 3mtrs with the camera delivering rock steady images.

Lester's presentation will include the arm itself along with a screening of supporting footage.

Drop In Thursday 15th November at ACS HQ (address below)
Doors as usual will open at 6pm with presentations starting about 6:40pm

2018 Awards

Ray Argall ACS

The 2018 ACS NSW & ACT Annual Awards for Cinematography were held in Sydney on November 3rd and the evening was a spectacular success. Thank you to the our ever willing host Ray Martin AM and Guest of Honour Ray Argall ACS.

Thank you also to the hard working NSW committee for coordinating the event and for collating the nearly 300 entries and to the judging panels for their diligent work in scoring those entries. Finally thank you to all our members who entered their work, the quality of which improves year after year, and congratulations to all Award recipients.

Final congratulations to Ahmad Al Morsy for his Gold in Features - Cinema and for taking home the Ross Wood Snr ACS Judges Award for 2018 Best in Show.

Accreditation

As you will be aware, Accreditation, the privilege of being able to use the letters ACS after your name, doesn't come easily and often takes members many years of work to achieve. An Accreditation panel meets once a year to view submissions from members who meet the submission criteria. This year five NSW members were recognized for their bodies of work and were honoured with Accreditation.

Congratulations to this year's recipients:
Ashley Barron ACS
Josh Flavell ACS
Joel Froome ACS
Tania Lambert ACS
Tim Tregoning ACS
