Camera Covid Protocol guide

Hi everyone.

The camera safety document is at a place where those of us working on it feel it can be shared among camera crew as a general guide. The MEAA safety committee will be taking from it what they need and putting it within their overall film industry guide which will be completed soon I believe.

This document will continue to exist though as a hopefully useful guide to anyone, (beyond camera department even) that may like to refer to it, or create their own guides from it.  We still welcome feedback or suggestions but for now we will only share with camera department generally.  We think it is something that could be shared with others as a reference also in the future, particularly with the questions / concerns section which may help guide productions on things they may need to address or think about.  Those sections may help those of you navigating new contracts also.
Hope you are all well.
Regards

Panasonic releases firmware update for LUMIX S1H: RAW Video Data Output over HDMI

Panasonic has announced the release of its anticipated free firmware update for the LUMIX S1H full-frame mirrorless camera, further enhancing the camera’s performance for professional cinematographers.
Working together with Atomos, a global company that creates video equipment for filmmakers, Panasonic’s new firmware enables the output of maximum 5.9K/29.97p and 4K /59.94p RAW video data over HDMI to save it in the Apple ProRes RAW codec on the Atomos Ninja V 4K HDR monitor-recorder. In addition, the update also offers Super 35mm Anamorphic 4:3 in 3.5K resolution which is a standard for filmmakers in production.

Scott Mellish, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Imaging, Panasonic, said: “Our longstanding relationship with Atomos has allowed us to offer high quality uncompressed external recording on our GH Series cameras, including 4:2:2 10-bit 60p output. With this announcement of 5.9K over HDMI we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in our LUMIX range, offering impressive image quality and giving users high flexibility RAW capture, in the efficient codec of ProRes RAW.”

“Filmmakers will appreciate the production and editing potential that ProRes RAW from the S1H will provide. We’ve also further improved S1H functionality for filmmakers and still photographers with capabilities such as down conversion for output over 4K on HDMI; improved noise reduction when shooting in V-Log for greater control over the image; and enhanced stabilisation when using adapted lenses.”

Firmware update available on May 25, 2020

“Since Covid-19's impact  I have experienced nothing like we have seen in my 35 year working life. By my observation, no one is as much affected as the Film and Television Industry .

The Film and TV Industry is a niche business I fell into in 1989. I have listened to and helped assist with the dreams and aspirations of many in the Industry over that period of time. The most recent COVID 19 events are concerning to say the least, something that is certainly outside our control, the question is for just how long is it outside our control? As a NSW ACS sponsor, advocate, credit influencer and passionate supporter of your Industry I would like to reach out to and say I am here for you.

I have received many emails, had many difficult and deep conversations from many clients from many Industries. Some will already know, but if you aren’t aware, initiatives such as an increased Instant Asset write off up to $150,000 and the up to 6 month repayment deferment requests on existing Equipment Finance loans (in addition to Home and Commercial Business loans) are being implemented as part of Government initiatives to assist businesses navigate the uncertain period ahead. Further initiatives such as the small business loans up to $250,000 SME Guarantee Scheme Loans are being worked on as we speak.

It is times like these we can all rally together and share resources and knowledge. I`d be only too happy to extend my resources and knowledge to the wider ACS community, I have already successfully put 6 month moratoriums in place for some of my clients, some within 24 hours of the request - maybe I can assist others do the same.

From someone passionate about the survival of your Industry, rest assured in these challenging times I am here to assist you, contact me for advice on how to make deferment arrangements with your Credit provider/s or any other aspect of the COVID19 small business Stimulus Package initiatives, in confidence email me andrewb@macfin.com.au or call 0412 521031”.
