Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The awards entries are in and NSW is gearing up for a big weekend of judging. Many thanks to all those who have submitted work this year and to all our accredited members and ACS volunteers who will be giving their time this weekend to review the entries. It’s always a tough job.

We have a fantastic Drop In next week that's been months in the making. The results are in from the  HDR test workshop held earlier this year with the ACS Technical Committee and guest DP, Toby Oliver ACS. Join us on Thursday 15th September from 6pm as Tom Gleeson and his team present their film as well as moderate an in depth discussion on working with HDR.

Accreditation applications are still open until the end of the month, so if you haven’t already, please review the criteria on our website and contact me directly if you intend to submit before Sept 30th.

A Wider Lens Report has certainly been the start of many conversations within our industry, both here and overseas, with the ACS working with both government and industry to try and implement the recommendations. If  you haven’t yet read the report, please take the time and think about how you can help make change.

The Sutherland Shire has just launched a new initiative to nurture film making in the community. The Cut Short Film Competition encourages film makers that live in the area or to use the Sutherland Shire as a location. Entries are open, so please check out the details in this newsletter.

For those that will be in Europe in November, you might like to consider attending CAMERIMAGE held in Poland from the 12th– 19thNovember, 2022.

For all the DPs that have a production coming up, please consider taking on a mentee via the ACS/ Screen Australia Credit Maker initiative. For details you can contact Erika Addis or Bonnie Elliot ACS.

Finally, don’t forget to that we are holding a face to face Cinekids workshop on Sept 25th, so its not too late to sign up any budding young filmmakers to join our Cinekids program with Elena de Brujne.

With workloads heavy at the moment, and schedules tight, don’t forget to check in with your crew to make sure they are coping both mentally and physically.

Stay safe everyone,

All the best,
Carolyn

"HDR. The biggest challenge to image standards in 50 years”

What are the expectations if your project has an HDR deliverable?
For the first time in fifty years the image and delivery standards are changing with standards such as Rec 709 being supplanted as we move into the 21st Century.

At the Drop In we will show a video that Tom Gleeson and the Technology Committee has made with the help of Netflix, Panavision, Sony, Arri, Cutting edge and the Post Op Group including tests helmed by Toby Oliver ACS and a look at what it all means for cinematographers at the coal face.
