ACS Lifetime Appreciation Award
to
Rob Jones
For decades of service in support of Australian Cinematographers
The Jones family are well known within our filmmaking industry for their decades of behind the scenes support of the industry and motion picture equipment. Rob’s father Percy Jones was a highly sought after film camera technician in the 1970’s and 80’s. And Rob’s brother Graham also followed in their father’s footsteps as a motion picture camera service technician.

Rob’s career began as an Apprentice Instrument Maker with Rank Industries at the age of 18. He then moved to the Electricity Authority, followed by a position at Samuelson’s. He started up his own company Film Vision Systems, followed by a brief stint with the Camera Department.

Then, in 1994, Lemac founder John Bowring ACS offered Rob a place with Lemac. Joining the Lemac family solidified a very special bond between the Jones family and Lemac that has endured. In Rob’s words, he has been a “Lemac man” ever since.
The first to bring HDTV to Australia, Lemac, with Rob’s expertise, lent itself to many a special project that made working in this new format much more accessible. Flash forward to the release of the Red One and the same applied in bringing 4K to market.

Our technicians are the unsung heroes working in the background to keep the wheels turning on set. Rob has been at the forefront of the incredible transition from Film to Digital Cinema. If you have ever used a Preston remote focus system, a Cine Tape or a Steadicam, then you owe a thanks to Rob.

This year Rob is retiring after 29 years with Lemac. Rob’s commitment to the industry has been outstanding and he will be greatly missed. Thank-you Rob from all of us and may your retirement be a happy one.

And the other two being the
ACS Appreciation Awards
to
Geoff Anderson & Tim Stackpool
from SONIC SIGHT
For providing A/V services to the society for over 30 years
Tim and Geoff have supervised the audio/visual presentation at every ACS NSW Awards for the last 32 years, initially having to play and swap clunky umatic and betacam tapes during the event! Their respect for our craft and dedication to the quality of the images shared and viewed on the night, as well as the impact of the overall show, has been phenomenal. Another pair of unsung heroes who have given decades of quiet but incredibly valuable support to the society.

Allan Collins ACS
We would also like to sincerely thank our Guest of Honour, Allan Collins ACS who gave a moving and heartfelt speech about knowing who you are, understanding your creative essence, and then applying that through your cinematography practice. He created a special connection between everyone in the room and stressed the need for our community to continue to welcome in and support other voices, in order that it continue to blossom and to be truly inclusive.
Sincere thanks as well to our inimitable and much loved host and MC, Ray Martin AM
