Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Thank you to all our members who participated in the Camera Workforce Census last year as your contributions have now been distilled into a world first report on the Australian Camera Workforce titled A WIDER LENS that was launched to the world last week. This report is yours and all your stories matter. It is definitely sobering reading, but I think we should use this as an opportunity for cultural change, so as our industry grows we create a more diverse, healthy and sustainable industry. I encourage all of you to read the report and to do what you can, both personally and collectively, to create change.

Our next Drop In is our NSW Branch AGM which will be held on Thursday 18thAugust with the meeting commencing at 630pm at the HQ and via zoom. If you have been thinking of contributing to the ACS by joining the NSW committee, please fill out the nomination form and submit before Wednesday Aug 10that 11.59pm. It's a great group of people and we would welcome your involvement.

After the AGM meeting, Pieter De Vries ACS will be demonstrating some of the new Aputure Lights that are at the HQ, available for members to use on some projects. It will also be an opportunity to catch up and network with colleagues.

A huge welcome to our new NSW Diamond Sponsor, Georges Cameras who will be working with the ACS to create education programs & workshops. We look forward to working along side you.

NSW Awards Submissions are now open and the closing date is Aug 21st2022, with no extensions, so don’t delay in getting your entries in via the membership portal on the ACS website. Our ACS NSW Branch Awards 2022 is going to be a great night held this year in person on Saturday November 5th at the AGNSW. I look forward to us all celebrating together.

Accreditation applications will be opening on Sept 1st– Sept 30th, so now is the time to start collating your work so your best is ready to go when its time to apply. Please don’t leave it to the last minute. If you are interested, check the eligibility criteria via the ACS website and then contact me directly at cconstantine@cinematographer.net.au.

Don’t forget to spread the word to any eager young filmmakers that might be interested in joining the Cinekids program with the next workshop being held in September.

As you go about your work this month, try to keep your eye out for the well-being of your colleagues. Don’t forget to check in occasionally and ask R u OK? It’s an uncertain time for many and the small things we notice or do can make a big difference.

Stay well everyone,
All the best,
Carolyn
