Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On International Womens Day let’s take a minute to celebrate all the inspiring women that contribute towards the world class camera departments working here in Australia and overseas.

As part of the IWD celebrations, on Saturday March 11th at 10am at ACE in Parramatta there will be a industry panel with our very own Kathryn Milliss ACS as one of the amazing women discussing their journey and experience. Organised in association with WIFT NSW, I encourage you to attend as it’s always is a great event.

Last months Drop In was a huge success. A big thanks to Director, Clara Chong and producer/ DOP Ben Allan ACS CSI for an incredibly generous and insightful sharing of the making of their feature film Dark Noise as well as Jimmy Limb from Aputure who brought along the latest LED units about to launch.

This months Drop In will be A Night of Lenses, with the latest glass from Atlas Lens Co from the UK, the new Flex Zoom Series from Canon as well as Venus Laowa Lenses demonstrating their new Proteus 2 x anamorphics. This will be another night not to miss so see you on Thursday March 16th from 6pm at our HQ.

I recently had the privilege of attending the inaugural Sony Future Filmmakers Awards 2023 in LA and would encourage filmmaking teams to start thinking about entries for next year, as this will be an annual global film competition to support emerging film makers. Here in Australia the Catchlight Film Festival supported by Sony Australia is now open for entries so check out the details below.

Congratulations to Mandy Walker AM ACS ASC for her history making win in the features category at the ASC awards held last Sunday night in LA. Good luck for the Oscars next week, we will all be cheering for you!

As the judging fast approaches for the ACS National Awards, don’t forget to put Saturday May 6th in your diaries as cinematographers from across the country come together at Luna Park, Sydney to celebrate a wonderful night of cinematography.

All the best,

Carolyn

A Night of Lenses
Join us for an in-depth presentation of new glass by some of the most innovative manufacturers of professional optics
From Atlas: "For us, the purpose of these event nights is to introduce ourselves to the Australian audience and ACS members by creating a hands-on experience with our products. After a brief introduction we'd like to invite attendees to test the lenses while we will be available to answer any questions about the lenses and our company."

They will have a bumper collection including the regular Orions (inc 21 &25mm), Silver Edition Orions, Mercury lenses, expanders/extenders and more!
From Canon: “We will be bringing lenses from our new Flex Zoom series. The CN-E20-50MM T2.4 L F / FP and CN-E45-135MM T2.4 L F / FP Both offer outstanding performance and impressive quality for HDR, 4K and 8K productions. These are Canon’s first full frame manual cine-zoom lenses, with constant T2.4 across the entire zoom range and covering focal lengths most frequently used in filmmaking and cinema productions.”
Venus Laowa Lenses will be demonstrating their recently announced Proteus 2x Anamorphic prime lenses which have a very fast T2 aperture and an interchangeable PL / EF  lens mount.  Like their popular Nanomorphs, a unique feature of Laowa’s Proteus lenses is their choice of versions with Amber, Blue or Silver flares.  At the Drop In will be the 60mm Silver and the 35mm Amber.

Thanks to both Canon and Lemac for their support.

See you there!
