A message from the President

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Well, entries are in and judges are already busy judging over 260 entries received from our NSW members. A huge thank you to our sponsors, everyone behind the scenes coordinating this effort and all our judges who have some difficult decisions ahead of them. With the current lockdown status in NSW it looks like we might be holding another virtual award night, so please keep the weekend of Saturday 30^th October free.

This Thursday, September 16^th at 7:00 pm our ACS NSW Virtual Zoom-In welcomes Director of Photography Earle Dresner ACS as he takes us behind the scenes of ‘The Newsreader” which is currently airing on the ABC. We are really lucky to also be joined by Simon Harding SOC who was A Cam and Steadicam Operator on the show. It's going to be a really popular night so please make sure you register through the link provided in this newsletter.

Accreditation assessments are open this month until Sept 30^th. For those still considering an application please contact me ASAP so you have time to collate your work: cconstantine@cinematographer.net.au

Our friends at Macquarie Commercial Finance have taken the time to put together a brief member survey to find out how the lockdown and government assistance have affected us. Please see further details in this newsletter and there’s a great prize for one lucky participant.

For those of us lucky enough to be working I would remind you to consider #whoisinyourcrew. On my current job, we have two women in our lighting department and it’s great to see, one of them is in a Screen NSW attachment position that I helped organise.

Finally, I would like to welcome Simeon Bryan as our new Focus Newsletter Editor and a huge thank you to Lizz who will be showing Simeon the ropes during this transition period.

Where are we now??..... ACS & Member Sentiment Survey

In late June the wider business community was dealt another blow, lockdowns that for many business owners could spell the real beginning of the end. How much more disruption can businesses endure?

But what of the wider Film and Television Industry? I am hearing of things holding up after a brief bubble re-set but I`m keen to hear from you…. the ACS member base. Raw data is hard to come by that will attest to any theory.

I have put together a Survey to hear your opinions on the ground…how are you shaping up? Your thoughts on the latest Government assistance packages and your outlook for the future?

While all individual responses will remain in confidence, I would like to share the statistical results of the Survey in the next Focus. Hopefully, the results may provide a cross-section of insight into the health of your Industry despite all the negativity and uncertainty.

Survey respondents will go into a draw to receive a $250 Credit to Mason Rose Fine Foods, if you haven`t seen or heard of Pete on set, he has operated a Film and TV Catering business for some twenty-five years. Pete`s team now producing nutritional, high-quality fresh meals, snap frozen to enjoy at home.

Finally, to anyone out there really struggling, please keep in mind loan deferral programmes are on offer, generally up to three months. Anyone wishing to seek assistance either contact your credit provider directly, go to Australian Bankers Association www.ausbanking.org.au for helpful links and information or contact me and I will advise how to best approach your credit provider/s.
