The new Taronga Centenary Theatre is a permanent 180 seat cinema inside the zoo with a unique format called "WILDSCOPE". The screen is over 80 ft wide, more curved than Cinerama and with an aspect ratio of 5:1, more than double CinemaScope.

The live action narrative drama "Wild Squad Adventures" takes the audience on a fictional action adventure journey to build awareness of the conservation work that Taronga does around the world and to inspire kids to get involved in protecting animals and the environment.

The production required numerous world firsts and working in WILDSCOPE involved writing a new rule book for this most extreme format.

Camera operator Matthew Allard ACS & director Clara Chong

How does the 180° line function with a 270° perspective? How do you storyboard drama in a 5:1 aspect ratio when almost every scene includes children & animals? How do you tell a story without the simple luxury of a panning or tracking shot and how do you plan coverage when a close up vertically is still a wide shot horizontally?

The film will be screened on a 3 projector system at 5.4k resolution and has more visual effects shots than Jurassic Park.

The industry Q&A session will cover issues such as the design and implementation of the purpose built Trident Panoramic Camera Array which was also flown on a drone, data management & workflow for handling an average of 1.5 Terabytes of data per day and the creation of a post production pipeline for the never before seen format including Sound Mixing in the theatre due to the one of a kind surround sound system.

Please note RSVPs are essential and required for after hours access to Taronga and seats are strictly limited due to theatre capacity.
