2016 NSW/ACT Awards

Entries for the 2016 NSW Awards will open on August 1st and close on August 26th.
It's time to consider what you're going to enter and get your files together as sometimes this can take a little longer than at first anticipated. Best to be prepared earlier rather than later as entries will not be accepted after August 26th. An entry form and a terms and conditions document will be published in July.

Membership Dues

Membership renewal invoices have been sent and thank you to the many members who have paid theirs so promptly. A reminder to use the current invoice number as the reference, not the one already in your banking details from previous years!
If you have not received your invoice, please contact the treasurer at treasurernsw@austcine.org.au
Also, a reminder that the 2016/17 fees are due and payable by or on 1st July as the 15/16 membership expiry date is 30th June.

VALE - Mary Wood

Mary Wood

VALE - Mary Wood
by David Wakeley ACS

Mary, wife of the late cinematography legend Ross Wood Snr ACS, died, aged 97, on the 9th June 2016, having maintained her independence, until recently, at the family home in Maroubra NSW.
Mary managed their company Ross Wood Productions for many years after Ross passed away, in conjunction with industry notables, Graham Lind ACS, Lex Merdith & Bill Lambert.
Mary was a great friend of the ACS, creating a trust fund after the death of Ross, where, for several years until funds ran out, a young cinematographer was awarded "The Ross Wood Snr ACS Young Cinematographer Award" which was presented to the successful recipient at the National Awards each year.

Along with Marion Leake, Norma Feeney and Nita Gardiner, Mary unveiled the opening plaque of the new ACS National Headquarters, North Sydney on 3rd March 2011, which was the culmination of many years of saving by the founders of the ACS dating back to 1958.
Thanks to Mary, the Powerhouse Museum now possess some of the Ross Wood Productions historic camera inventory, including a BNC Mitchell and an NC Mitchell, each of which were on display over two years at the ACS HQ.
Personally, Marianne & I had many conversations with Mary, up until this year where, even at 97 she retained plenty of spirit and was wonderful to talk to. She was always interested in those around her and the ACS names she recalled. Mary, accompanied by sons Barry & Laurie, attended both NSW/ACT & National Awards for several years, including ACS50 in 2008. We missed seeing her at the awards in recent years.
You won't be forgotten Mary.
David Wakeley ACS.
