They are at the top of the ladder in their respective fields, their work is very highly regarded, they are very much in demand and at our October Drop In they will be our guests. They are gaffer Reg Garside and key grip Adam Kuiper.
The work of a cinematographer is obviously very demanding and most DPs appreciate support from their gaffer and key grip at both practical and creative levels. Reg and Adam are two very supportive technicians and their resumes certainly speak to that.
Here are a few cinematographers and titles they have been associated with: John Seale ACS ASC, Andrew Lesnie ACS ASC, Ben Nott ACS, David Burr ACS, Darius Wolsky ASC, Steve Yedlin, Peter James ACS ASC, Jules O'Loughlin ACS, The Mosquito Coast, Gorillas in the Mist, Strictly Ballroom, The Matrix, Lorenzo's Oil, King Kong, The Hobbit, Nim's Island, Sanctum, Paper Giants, Underbelly, Crownies, Mao's Last Dancer, The Water Diviner, Mad Max: Fury Road, San Andreas.
Come along to HQ on Thursday 15th October to hear Reg and Adam discuss their work, the relationship between gaffer and grip and how they interact, both separately and together, with the cinematographer.
Doors to HQ (address below) open at 6pm with a kickoff sometime before 7pm.
Use the link below to take you to the "bookings" page at the ACS website.
To be held again at Sydney Masonic Centre, corner Goulburn and Castlereagh Streets, Sydney at 6:30pm, November 7th this is "the" night on the ACS calendar.

The second annual ACS Northern Territory Branch Awards were a great success again this year, with three NSW Committee Members in attendance, Steve Munro, on behalf of the NSW Branch & David & Marianne Wakeley (David representing the National ACS as were JoAnne Bouzianis Sellick & Ron Johanson). MC was Renee Brack and Guest of Honour was Don McAlpine ACS ASC, who opened his speech with "I'm 81.......". Later he mentioned that he is currently deciding between two films, offered to him the same day. His Q&A the day after the Awards was in front of a packed house. Another popular event was ARRI's Stefan Sedlmeier demonstrating the Alexa Mini. Awards judging was again carried out at the ACS HQ with many successful quality entries, judged by accredited members from around the country.
Steve Windon ACS ASC is currently shooting in Dubai and sent this "postcard" to Ron Johanson ACS. Ron has kindly passed it on.
Hi Ron,
Hope all is well. I'm in Dubai shooting STAR TREK-BEYOND for Paramount. I've been prepping and shooting in lovely Vancouver for the last seven months and we recently made the "company move" to Dubai for a few more weeks of fun, both on location and in the new Dubai sound stage facility. We've managed to assemble a crew from all over the world (love a global industry!), and I've divided them into two categories....those who understand the game of cricket, and those who don't. Inevitably lunch is explaining square leg, silly mid off and a gully to a captive audience. On a technical level I'm shooting Arri Alexa 4:3 XT with Zeiss Master Anamorphic's (3 complete sets!) and the new Zeiss 19-36mm Anamorphic Zoom, also carrying a set of Master Primes for some VFX shots when required. It has been a technically challenging shoot with so many set pieces and so much LED lighting designed into the sets, and the first film of this genre for me, I've enjoyed every minute of it. Should be back in time for the NSW Awards in November so I look forward to seeing you and all my ACS friends for a beer. All the best
Stephen F Windon ACS ASC
