Next Drop In

Have a gander at the pictures below. They are all images from recently produced dramas seen on Australian television.
Our guest speaker at the February Drop In has been involved
in the photography of these and many other TV dramas.

Bruce Young

Having climbed his way to the top of the “traditional” camera department ladder he is now a much sought after Cinematographer and his services are constantly in demand. His name is Bruce Young and he will join us at ACS HQ on February 20th to screen examples of his work, discuss his methods and approach to the job at hand and be available for another very popular Q&A.
Television is currently the sharp end of drama production in Australia so don’t miss this opportunity to meet and talk to Bruce Young.

As usual the HQ doors will be open from 6pm (address below).

AFI/AACTA Awards

Congratulations to ACS NSW members nominated for Best Cinematography at the recent AFI/AACTA Awards:

Andrew Commis ACS - The Rocket
Simon Duggan ACS - The Great Gatsby
Damian Wyvill ACS - Goddess

All three nominees presented fantastic work but as you know there can be only one winner and taking home the trophy was Simon Duggan for his outstanding work on The Great Gatsby.

Wolf Creek 2 Screening

Australian Film Institute (AFI) | Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) are launching a screening series of Australian films each month for AFI|AACTA members at the Event cinema in Bondi. It begins this week, Wednesday 19th Feb 6:30pm, with a screening and Q&A of Wolf Creek 2. Chris Murray of Popcorn Taxi will host the evening and conduct a Skype Q&A with writer/director Greg Mclean, and after the screening there’ll be a small party in the AACTA Bar upstairs with complimentary drinks and canapes and even some live music.

An invitation for this month has been extended to ACS members. A limited number of single tickets will be available on a first come first served basis. If you are interested and available to attend please email National President Ron Johanson ACS to reserve your seat. If you are subsequently unable to attend please let Ron know so that your ticket can go to someone else.

Uncollected Awards Entry Media

A note to let members know that any uncollected Awards entry media (hard drives and USB sticks) which haven’t as yet been collected will shortly be marked “to be recycled”. If you would like your media back please contact David Lewis ACS, HQ Manager, by email (address below) to make arrangements.

Canon Press Release

ACS National sponsor Canon is thrilled to announce the achievement of a camera-manufacturing milestone as total production of the company’s EOS-series interchangeable-lens cameras surpassed the 70-million mark on February 5th.

Introduced in March 1987 as a new generation of AF SLR cameras, Canon’s EOS digital SLR cameras were the world’s first to incorporate an electronic mount system enabling complete electronic control not only between the lens and body, but throughout the entire camera system.

The popularity of Canon DSLR cameras gained momentum in the early 2000s, surpassing the 60-million-unit mark in October 2012 and the 70-million-unit threshold in 2014.

Well done Canon.
