Thank You

With another year of successful NSW Branch Drop Ins behind us it’s time to head into 2014 and once again we will have interesting and informative nights scheduled every third Thursday of the month.

We are now into our fifth year and the move from our original venue at Engine to the ACS National Headquarters has seen the Drop Ins go from strength to strength and we regularly now host up to fifty or so members, sponsors and guests.

ACS NSW would like to thank the following members and sponsors for their part in making the 2013 Drop Ins the success that they were.

David Lewis ACS, Stefan Sedlmeier & ARRI Australia, Red Apple, Fujinon, Dragon Image, John Seale ACS ASC OM, David Burr ACS, Michelle Pizanis, Lemac, Videocraft, Evan Boyd & Avid, Ben Allan ACS, Sidat de Silva, Damian Wyvill ACS, David Knight ACS & Gearhead, Peter Barta, Geoffrey Wharton ACS, Velinda Wardell ACS & James Croke

January Drop In

To kick off the 2014 round of Drop Ins, Garry Phillips ACS has been kind enough to offer his time to come along and discuss his involvement with recently released “The Railway Man” directed by Jonathan Teplitzky and staring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth. Shot on locations in Australia, Great Britain and Thailand, Garry used ARRI Alexa Plus recording to ARRIRAW to capture some stunning images.

Make a date in your diary for Thursday 16th January. Doors at the National Headquarters (address below) will open from 6pm and Garry will start his talk from about 7pm.

The high point of the ACS calendar is obviously the National Awards held in May each year following the State and Territory Branch awards held around the country. These Awards nights are a celebration of the work accomplished by our members and present a great opportunity for members and sponsors alike to get together.

Although these Awards evenings are well attended and hugely successful they are an annual event and while it’s good to go home with an Award or two, for some it is their only involvement with the Society.

The establishment of the National Headquarters has undoubtably raised the profile of the ACS and hopefully will continue to do so but the Society is really about the membership and a camaraderie built around the fact that we all do the same job, we all experience the highs and lows and we all appreciate a job well done by our peers.

For the Society to grow and be strong it needs the support of its members and so it’s important that we all endeavour to be involved, as best we can, on an ongoing basis and not just once or twice a year. The Drop In evenings, and other ACS events held throughout the year, give us all the opportunity to support the Society and regularly be part of the ACS.

3rd AACTA Awards - Tickets Now On Sale

From our National President, Ron Johanson ACS:

The 3RD AACTA Awards Ceremony will take place on 30th January 2014 at the Star Event Centre Pyrmont, Sydney and it is then the ACS will be presented with the Byron Kennedy Award for 2014, in Sydney at the Star Complex. It would be great to see as many of you there as possible to share the occasion, as it’s a result of our collective hard work over many years that has seen the Society receive this prestigious Award. As I’ve said previously, this is a truly humbling and most appreciated honour for all in the ACS.

It would be fantastic to see you there to help celebrate, so go to www.aacta.org for ticket details.
